Q: Could I cut this down to a smaller size with a skillsaw?

Im say dont cut it as the other comments here is incorrect it still is particle board it's just laminated I've drilled into it but I'd not advise cutting into it.

You could, but you will want to pre-drill the holes for them in the desktop first. Don't rely on the screws to tap their own holes, as you'll likely have issues with the screws either just dancing around, scratching the surface, or worse, getting an initial bite and creating an ugly pop hole instead.

Q: It stated as "assembly required". what assembly does this refer to? it looks like a one solid piece.

It is a single solid piece, but you're definitely going to have to assemble it with something else, depending on how you want to use it. In other words, if you're looking to use this as a desktop, you're going to have to provide the support system, be it legs or cabinets, to make it into an actual desk. :)

Q: What screws are needed?

I used 10-24 wood insert nuts with 10-24 x 5/8" Flat Machine Screws, but you can use whatever you want really. There are no pre-drilled holes, so you'll placing them and deciding the size for yourself based on the legs and mounts you are using. I used wood insert nuts and machine screws, so that disassembly wouldn't damage it, but any diameter wood screw with length of 1/2" or 5/8" or maybe even 3/4" should work fine. Any longer and you risk sticking out the other side of the table.
