How Binoculars WorkThere are two basic types of binoculars: porro prisms and roof prisms.1. Porros rely on an external focus mechanism, which causes the eyepieces to slide forward or backward along an external tube. Q: How good is the stability of these when hand-held? I've not used anything over 10x handheld and it seems like it could be pretty shakey...

It's not that good, over time I developed some skills to hold it steady, but it's hard.

Q: I want to focus on small items 25' away. Things I used to be able to see with my eyes. Can these focus at 25' away?

Most certainly! You should have absolutely NO issues in viewing objects in that range.
