I was a huge fan of Pokemon Moon version. It was a breath of fresh air for the franchise, and Pokemon Ultra Moon takes it to the next level. The story is by and large different, but a lot of events are the same, but under a different context. Some characters have new motivations, some who were evil become a sort of Anti-hero or a missunderstood hero. In the main game, there is strictly speaking, no evil characters(bar Team Skull, but they're a bit of an odd case) which makes the characters feel real. No evil for the sake of evil, just different motivations, whether it's to survive, or to save the world by any means. Mechanically speaking, there isn't much new. Mantine surfing is weird, not the best but still cool. The Roto-loto is cool, though I wish it didn't lock you where you were. A plethora of pokemon were added to the region, like Larvitar, and new missions like the Ditto 5 were a fun inclusion. The Totem stickers were better the the Zygarde parts both thematically and relevancy. The Elite 4 was a nice surprise with the mini changes, though I'm kind of sad that the final league battle wasn't the same, but I'll survive since this one makes more sense. My biggest gripe is the fact that there wasn't both Gyms and Trials in this game like everyone was anticipating, but hey, the Kantonian Gym was fun. All in all, the pros of the game heavilly outweigh the cons. Better then Moon every step of the way. If you have played Sun and Moon; it's worth picking up, to play spot the differences. If you haven't, then don't worry you don't need to play the first ones to understand the game. All in all, worth every minute playing it. Oh, and they fixed the biggest problem in Sun and Moon, being the super big tutorial in the beggining. 5/5 one of the best pokemon games to date.

I used to play Pokemon back on Emerald, and I think I got as far as Diamond before I quit the series back in the day. The only thing I really hated so far about this game was the Ultra Beast surfing section but that was mostly because they make you use the gyroscope to play that segment. I'm told there's a place in the game to make it control with the control stick thing though so once I find that it should be fine. ONE THING TO WARN YOU ABOUT, however, is that if you go onto the GTS and seek out say a legendary pokemon, DO NOT trade with a guy named AdventSnivy. There is a ton of hacked shiny pokemon on the GTS trade system that are from that user advertising their dumb Youtube channel. If you try to trade for any of those hacked shiny pokemon it will crash your game and then give you a "Soft ban" IE you can't trade with anyone for half an hour. Some people reported being unable to trade for days afterwards.

I keep reading reviews about how amazing this game is to the franchise, and I've played at least one version from each new set release for this game going back to Red and Blue. Problem was, I kept finding myself picking it up for 20 minutes and then getting annoyed at all the dialogue I had to click through and then putting it down. I read that this is a common complaint and that the first part is really front-loaded with dialogue but that it gets better, and I suspect that I may be just at that threshold where it would get better. However, I still can't/haven't brought myself back to cracking it open again. I figure I will at some point and I'm sure that I'll be delighted by much of the game-play, but I was so very much annoyed and disenchanted by this boatloads of sluggish dialogue in the first hour or so that it really, really took all the steam out of my excitement to play. Just be prepared to find yourself button mashing to get through it. I really wish there were an instant load, fast forward, and even skip option. This feature alone would remove the sense of being forced through it, making the game play feel less like tedious homework, and I'm certain that given this feature I would still opt to use it sparingly because simply knowing I have it changes the mentality around enduring it. I even want to give it 3 stars for this but I won't go that far because I haven't played it enough and I believe it gets better once you're past the hand-holding intro. The first introductory hour is definitely a 2-3 star experience, however.

Great version of the game. New content makes it fresh, without being just a rehash of the previous release. The environment is familiar, with new areas, so you're not completely lost if you are trying to compare the two versions (old and new). A wise purchase for me :)

First off a lot of people are saying that this is exactly like sun and moon. While the story follows a very similar structure, there are tons of little changes and that becomes more apparent as you advance in the game. Its deffinately worth buying, especially since it will be the last major release for the 3DS. Like sun and moon, there is so much to do post game that makes this game playable for hours and hours. The communication features are great, graphics are as expected, I would deffinately recommend this game if you like Pokemon.
