Q: How much electricity does it save?

We are on year round level pay with my electric company. After one year of heating only the area family was actually in, our bill went down over $1000 per year. A savings of almost $100 per month. Whole house heating is a waste of money. We keep bedrooms and baths at 61 at night and off during the day. We use electric blankets. We keep the kitchen and dining room at 65-68 during the day and 50 degrees at night. Zonal heating is one of the biggest budget savers available. Doing this required purchasing 6 heaters ( $30-90 each) and 6 digital thermostats ($10 each) and electric blankets ($60-80 each) for each bed. We already had quilts. Our total outlay was a lot but we got it all back in savings within the first 6-7 months. The 2nd and 3rd year everything still worked so the savings was over $2000. Our master bedroom electric blanket quit working and we believe it is our dogs fault because of the nails.

Q: How bright is the light on the panel and can you turn it off so it doesn't disturb your sleep?

The panel lights brighten for a little bit after adjusting a setting, then it dims somewhat. BUT, I find that the light really is much too bright, especially in a dim room. Your eye is continually drawn to that panel light. I cut a piece of heavy, black paper and taped it over the light using black electrical tape, attached just at the top. So now, when adjusting a setting, I lift the paper up, make my changes, and set the paper back down. It completely eliminates the display lighting. A good improvement would be to have a control which allows turning the display off. Still, it's a great heater.

Q: what is the heating element?

inside the unit there is a metal heating element. It gets up to full temperature within a few minutes... slower than a traditional space heater with exposed elements / fan, faster than a oil filled radiator type.
