Used this to finish mortar joints in newly laid brick wall
This tool works great. After the mortar sets up a bit, you do the vertical joints first, then the horizontal joints. You set the height of the nail head the appropriate depth. Just make sure to clean it thoroughly after each use. I watched a British tutorial on this and the presenter didn't know which end to use. If done correctly you don't need to use a jointer following this.

Sturdy make
Reliably well made, though you’ll probably have to grab a 16 penny if you’re looking to rake back more than a 1/4”. Aside from that it’s solid as can be.

Well made but less functional than needed to remove old mortar.
Not for someone like me with weak arms. You have to have a lot of strength to make this work. I cleaned up cracked mortar in a brick wall, using mallet and brick chisel, and was able to then successfully replace the mortar and then clean up the wall well. But I was NOT able to make this work for clearing out old mortar, because 2 reasons: 1) I have muscle atrophy and arthritis, weakness, and 2) like one other reviewer wrote somewhere, the nail that sits in this piece to scrape out the mortar is very short. The manufacturing is quality, but the function is questionable. It probably works well for completely broken up crumbling mortar, not mortar that is just cracked here & there.
