You turn it on and off with the remote. It has an on and off. It Tom on the remote. It will not drain the batteries if it is off.

Does your inflatable hot tub have a surface that a suction cup can stick too? If so you will want to apply it there. If not you could stick it to an object that can sink into the water that has a surface for a suction cup and apply it to that.
