Great fragrance free product! Good value per ounce!
This laundry detergent is one of the few on the market that has the ingredient TAED (tetraacetylethylenediamine). When this ingredient is mixed with another laundry product that has sources of hydrogen peroxide, such as sodium percarbonate, it produce peracetic acid. Peracetic acid is a GREAT sanitizer. This process works best with powdered products, and especially when presoaked in a warm or hot wash. I mix it with Dollar Tree’s Brillo Basics oxy blast stain remover powder (fragrance free), or Dollar Tree’s boxed fragrance-free color safe powered bleach. It was really hard to find something that had this ingredient AND is a powder AND fragrance free. Defunkify is definitely now a staple in my laundry room for laundry that needs more than a typical wash and needs sanitizing.

Get the funk out!
I deal in textiles and frequently will come across a piece that has that musty old smell that can permeate old fibers and be very hard to remove. I recently picked up a mohair wool skirt that I didn't think was that bad when I was in the store, but by the time I got it home I realized it had a real funk to it. I scoured the internet looking for ideas, I spent one day soaking the item in my bathtub with a water and vinegar solution. That did a great job to start, but there was still an underlying musty smell. I ordered this from Amazon and I am sold. I took about a scoop and a half and diluted it in hot water and then I poured it into the cold water in my bathtub and soaked the skirt for about two hours. Took it out, dried it in the sun, and not only is the funky smell gone, but it also seems to have perked up the fibers in the skirt and made it feel soft again. Miracle worker? Maybe?!? I definitely won't be using this for my everyday detergent, but I have a couple other pieces that have been hanging around my house in purgatory because they're great pieces, but they just smell so I will absolutely be hitting those with this as well. Cannot recommend it enough.

Attacks smells
This is my go-to for stinky and/or stained clothes. Its ingredients cover a broad spectrum of issues. Oxy cleaning only does so much, as things like sweat, deodorant, and even cat pee cannot be dissolved by oxygenation. These substances have salts in them, and in order to dissolve salts, you need enzymes. Defunkify has enzymes. Plus, if you make a point to dissolve it well in a small bucket of water before adding it to the washing machine, it doesn't seem to build up, especially if you use extra rinse cycles. Items like musty towels benefit from a presoak of hot water and dissolved Defunkify. Then you can either use more of it or a preferred detergent. A second rinse cycle is also recommended before using fabric softeners. This, Kids-n-Pets, and Laundress Stain Remover cover just about any laundry disaster I've encountered, save for clay-based stains. At that point, tie dye the garment and hope it turns out well.

Really takes the funk out!
This really takes the funk smell of most anything. But it’s slow on stains. You have to let it sit sometimes more than a day to get rid of stains.

My washed clothes smell like . . . nothing! And so does front-load washer, finally!
This is an excellent product if you want your clothes clean and not smelling like any perfume additive. Even better, after years of having a front-loader machine (which I otherwise like) and being vigilant about leaving it open when not in use, wiping it down, etc., and trying a variety of different (also unscented) laundry products, the washer always used to impart a faint musty smell on the clothes, especially the cotton ones. Now that I've been using Defunkify, the smell in those items is completely gone and that same front-load washer has no smell at all. Our household laundry funk is of the average variety, so I haven't put the product to any extraordinary tests, but it consistently does a good job. Sometimes I let the wash cycle go for a while, then pause it before the rinse - the way you can do a "soak" in a high-efficiency machine - for anywhere between 15 min and an hour before resuming the cycle if I want to get those items extra clean. This is also just the thing if you have some clothing items that had weirdly retained stink even after you know they are otherwise clean. Soak them in Defunkify and they'll be funk-free. Good product. Economical to use. One caveat: as another reviewer noted, I found it doesn't break down whatever awful dryer sheet (I never use that stuff) or other perfume smell (ditto) clings to many items of clothing I buy from eBay. It helps, as does then hanging those items outside in the sun. But it takes several more washings before that particular substance is gone. Looking now for a product that will eliminate that in one cycle.

Only stuff that works on my smelly teenage boys sports stuff! It’s expensive but saves so much time soaking and scrubbing and still not turning out great! It’s been a game changer! Would recommend for anyone with stubborn odour issues…
