Saving our cat's life.....literally
We tried several different brands and flavors and our senior kidney disease cat would have no part of any of them. We tried all the flavors of the Weruva brand, and she loved, loved, loved the shredded chicken. She has never tired of it. Cleans the plate each meal. So grateful for this company as we help our cat to live a longer and healthier life. We were running out of options on what to feed her and that she would eat, digest and love eating.

Healthy ingredients and my cat loves it
My 8-year-old cat likes a lot of Weruva foods, but he especially loves this Weruva Wx Phos Focused, Chicken Formula in Gravy. He will eat more of this can at a time than he will most other foods, which is great, because it has a very high moisture content and is good for his kidneys and urinary tract. The "gravy" is more like a broth; it's not sticky or thick like gravy, it's thinner without any thickening ingredients. He loves the flavor so much that I can even add a little extra water to eat and he'll still eat it. The chicken is a pulled consistency. It's like little thin strips. These strips are pretty easy for him to eat, although he does sort of lick them a lot until he gets the chicken closer to the edge of the plate and finally bites the pieces rather than lick them. It can get a little messy when he licks the chicken and it goes off the plate, but he's a messy eater in general, so I don't really think this is the food's fault. I tried the other Wx Phos focused flavors, and he didn't like those as much. I'm sure it depends on your cat's specific tastes. I'll continue to buy this one. I've already fed him almost 24 cans over the course of a month or two, and he continues to love it. This food is great for preventing kidney damage because of its high moisture content (like most canned foods) and its low phosphorus content. High phosphorus diets are associated with kidney damage. This is not a prescription food, but it still contains phosphorus in amounts under AAFCO standards. Consult your veterinarian if you are going to feed this food as a major part of your cat's diet. Otherwise, it is perfectly healthy to feed your cats when fed with other foods, because most cat foods have high amounts of phosphorus.

CKD Boy Approves
CKD boy loves this food. Sometimes I mix it into his k/d food, and he may or may not tolerate that. Most often, he eats this and this alone.

Multiple Cats Wouldn't Eat
Well, I usually like Weruva products. I bought this for my one cats who has kidney problems. He wouldn't eat it. Well, my cats like to wander around and sample the other cats' food. Not one cat would eat this, not a one. They all sniffed and walked away. Did I mention I have 11 cats! I left it overnight and it was still there in the morning, that never happens. The stuff was stringy chicken in kind of a soupy broth. Low on phosphorus, must mean low on taste. I think Weruva better change up the formula if 11 cats passed it up. What a waste of money.

Our cats love this, but...
This is their favorite food and low in phosphorous. So we keep buying it. That's the good part. The bad part is the size of the cans. 3oz doesn't go far and there's always some residue in the can at the end. So you're not getting value for your money. Why can't Weruva make a larger can?

Thank you Weruva
I've had a very challenging 6 months with my little 12 year old furball. After a number of health problems reared their ugly heads, we've settled down to her having stage 2 CKD. Her lack of appetite was a huge problem for many of those months. Many days I resorted to syringe feeding her to ensure she got calories, and I went through dozens of foods to find something she'd palate - then along came Weruva. I'm incredibly thankful that almost their entire line of food is relatively low in phosphorous, which helped me to find several flavors that my cat actually started to devour. Imagine my surprise when I tried this one - the lowest phos of them all, and she absolutely gobbles it up! While the jury is still out about protein content do's and don'ts, I tend to think that feeding an obligate carnivore the food they should be getting instead of the carbs found in renal foods makes sense. In this case, she happily laps up all of the liquid from this food (along with an ounce or so that I add), and I'm happy to know that it has the egg whites in it for protein and other beneficial supplements in the broth alone. Sometimes she eats all of the shredded chicken and sometimes she doesn't, and that is ok as she's eating enough, getting great hydration, and I'm elated that she's gained nearly a full pound in about a month. I've only got a couple of minor complaints - I'd love for this formula to come in a bigger can. She goes through 4 or 5 a day. Would love a big can like the paw lickin' chicken comes in. And secondly, I'd love it if the chicken shreds were chopped up just a bit more. Sometimes, I will snip the strands with scissors when I serve it, but that is just fussy.

Good CKD non-prescription alternative
My 14-year-old cat with CKD has started rejecting his prescription food, so I bought this for some variety. Compared to prescription brands, this food has lower phosphorus, but higher protein due to the egg whites. The lower carbs in this food is probably what makes it more appealing to cats than prescription food. As soon as I opened the can and let kitty sniff it, he started meowing like crazy and chasing me until I gave him a spoonful. So funny because he is normally such a calm cat. I introduced this food more quickly than I would usually introduce a new food due to him not eating his regular food, but he did not throw up at all. So it looks like this food is easy on the stomach. The long chicken shreds seem to be kind of difficult to chew (even though he has all of his teeth) and he inadvertently spits some of it out. After a few days of eating this, he has started leaving a lot of the chicken behind and I need to coax him to eat it. But that could just be a problem with my cat. Overall, I will probably keep buying this because my cat really likes the flavor despite being very picky and it is easy to get him to eat this. But the value for the money is not great, and ultimately even more pricey than prescription kidney foods. He eats ~3 cans a day of this, which would be $25 for just 4 days of food. He needs to eat more of this than he would other foods, because the weight of the food comes mostly from the liquid inside.

She likes it NOT EVERYDAY ALONE
My cat has kidney disease and it not nutritionally complete but vet says stage 2 i can add some tiki silver patee and she's gaining weight. She loves the flavor but not nutritionally complete i didn't know so she gets both and doesn't sneek the other dry food thats bad for kidney disease. I had no idea, 2 year's that's all she ate! I felt bad wondering why she was still hungry all the time. Please add a kidney food they'll eat, this could be a topper but read the feeding instructions. Says, for birthdays and intermittent feeding. I felt so bad but she loves this flavor but find a kidney friendly food (yes, they don't like any percription food) but try like me (for years) ahh!
