If applied to wood or similar flat surface with a brush, will it become flat or does it stay a large foamy mass? I want to coat the interior of my firepit with something. Is this a good bet?

This is not fireproof at all. It is used to slow the spread of fire better than regular foam. If exposed to high heat it will burn, decompose. There are 2 part high heat ceramic coatings that can be professionally applied for industrial applications.
