Neat OBD2 scanner with comprehensive app
If you like to know what is going on with your car then I'd recommend the TOPDON CarPal!The device plugs into your car's DLC (data link connector) port and then connects via BlueTooth to your Apple or Android device via Bluetooth. You will also need to download CarPal software from the app store (no extra charge). When plugged into my 2018 BMW, the app was able to read the VIN code of the car and I could then perform a full scan of the electronic modules to find DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) data. You can read about any errors found and there's a technical library which gives suggested fixes. DTCs can also be reset, but obviously they will return if the fault is not repaired! There's also a host of other information such as searchable Technical Service Bulletins and a section that allows the reset of service items such as battery and oil etc.I was impressed with the volume of information provided, both from the car and from the app itself and for the price, I'd say it represents great value. If you are considering purchase, perhaps download the CarPal app first and take a look! When you connect to your car, it does mention you can have 3 brands (cars) set up in the app. I'm not sure if these could be deleted if you changed vehicle. The is also something called FCA SGW - a secure gateway (firewall) used on Fiat Chrysler group vehicles which restricts 2017-onwards models from connecting to 3rd party OBD2 scanners. Just be aware of this if you own one of these vehicles.

Great for understanding your cars health
My husband uses this after he has done a full service. To keep his service history up to date. Also great for any fault codes. Easy to use and value for money.

Useful tool for home car diagnostics
An ODB reader is a great little gadget to have at home. If your car throws up any warning lights or error codes you can scan the car yourself and work out what the issue may be. This job itself most dealers charge you a good amount of money to do even before any works required are done. Having the ability to read these yourself and maybe even fix some simple faults without the need to visit a garage can save you a big bill. The device slots into the car OBD port without issue and connects automatically. The reader is compatible with various iOS and Android apps so simply pick the most suitable one/one you prefer the most and away you go, the app now being able to scan and download data from your car to your smartphone and allowing you to self diagnose any issues or warning lights. At £49.99 (at the time of writing) this is a bit higher priced that some others but a garage would likely charge you double this or more just to plug your car into their diagnostic computer. Highly recommend piece of home car maintenance equipment.

Maybe provides too much information?
Previously, I used an OBD2 scanner which only showed me codes and how to clear them. When I saw the facilities that were available on this app, I did wonder if I could be more in control of the car when I'm trying to form a diagnosis and perhaps solving simple problems. The Bluetooth worked seamlessly, out-of-the-box and within a couple of minutes I was all set up and ready to go. I can still see how to clear codes quite easily, but now I wonder if I dare touch any of the other sets of information because I wouldn't want to cause any damage to the car that I could not resolve. I might use this before I take the vehicle for services and see how have reports compare. This is probably too advanced for my needs but it does provide a lot of useful information, most of which is way beyond my knowledge, so I'll be using this for basic decisions.

Easy to use and great for non-mechanics
I recently used this scanner with my Nissan NV200, and it worked perfectly! The setup was super easy, and the instructions were clear and straightforward, even for someone like me who isn’t a mechanic. The Bluetooth connection worked seamlessly, and I found the scanner to be very intuitive, helping me quickly figure out what was causing the dashboard warning light. The build quality is excellent—it feels sturdy and well-made. The features, like the vehicle health check, are really helpful, and the repair guide is a great bonus for someone who’s not familiar with car diagnostics. Overall, it’s a fantastic tool for anyone looking to better understand their vehicle’s issues without needing advanced technical knowledge. Highly recommended!

Impressive.
This is a great wee gadget. Couldn't wait to pop it onto my car as it recently showed an ABS error.Took me a while to figure out how to download the right car data for the app as i'm new to this, but once I had it up and running it opened up a world I didn't know existed! So, front left ABS sensor error, not just a generic 'Check ABS breaking", low oil issue, and some funky stats I could pretend to understand! I'll take a deep dive into the capabilities of the app when I get a chance but I reckon this has already paid for itself on it's first use.
