Q: Can you slice the egg both directions on this one to get a dice? I can't tell by the picture

I slice the egg one direction, then turn it & slice the other way. So you can't dice in one motion, but its very effective in two steps. Hope that helps.

Q: can I slice avocodos with this egg slicer?

I don't think it will cut through the skin of an avocado.

Q: How does this work on soft boiled eggs?

A little messy for soft boiled eggs but if you put it over a small egg cup, it would work.

Q: What do you need to do if the unit falls within the 5 year warranty period?

I would return...I have had mine for 20 years...maybe the quality changed?
