Perfect for practicing positions and movements. Not a toy for children.
For $20, it's better and heavier than I expected. The Basics: It's weighted well and has a little heft to it but certainly not heavy. This is solid, not hollow plastic, yet it won't take actual swordplay. That wasn't my intention or expectation that it would. If two of these are used for hard hits or you're using this against a hard object, it will certainly damage it. The best use of this product is to practice movement and handling, nothing more. If you want to practice hits, testing against a punching bag or other semisoft would probably work. On the upside, if you damage this, you're not exactly out a fortune and you'd have to hit it very hard to break it. Note/warning: While this is plastic, it's solid and the tip of this can easily be swung fast and hurt someone seriously. It's definitely solid enough that it could break a bone or cause a contusion on an arm. Don't buy this for a child to get their exercise or take out their aggressions. This isn't a toy and it isn't harmless when inappropriately used. Emotional and mental maturity required. Looks: Though gray and uniform, it looks plastic, and it looks more like a kids' toy than it is. The blade is about as dull as the handle on a butter knife and the point is no sharper. This isn't going to cut anything. It has a bit of a steel gray look to the entire thing from one end to the other. The handle simulates a leather strap wrapped handle of a katana, much better than I thought I would. You aren't going to get sweaty and have it slip. The handle is also long enough to get two adult male hands on it with easy and the blade length is probably about 4x longer. Parts note: I initially thought that they had forgotten to include the guard/hilt until I was getting ready to fold the foam wrap for garbage. It turned out that the hilt is inside and taped into the bottom of the foam and very light... so it almost got tossed. The hilt is a bit better than I was expecting as well. Probably about 3" in diameter, it slides down the blade in one direction only and once in position, seems to stay there. While holding onto the hilt, I tipped the katana handle side down and tapped it hard on the floor, forcing the hilt into position. I'm sure you can get it off if you want, but it hasn't come loose yet. So... if you can't find the part, check the packaging before tossing.

Perfect katana for practice
Very happy with this purchase. For the price I paid it's perfect. The weight feels good, I was worried it would be way too light but it's perfect. Very sturdy too.

A fine blade
"Another fine addition to my collection"-General Grievous. This practice sword is very nice. It is detailed, and feels good in my grip right away. It has enough weight to feel powerful but is light enough to be wielded one handed, which is my preferred. It really feels like it is willing to be wielded however I want, That is a good feeling in a sword. If you want a good piece for your collection, this is it.

Great value
Great sword for kids or adults. Sturdy and heavy. My son loves them.

Adult size practice sword
I bought this for my 7 year old, and he really likes it, however we did not realize it was an adult sized practice (sparring) sword. It is heavy and will not break. It is all plastic and there is no sheath. He does not like to play with it much as it is too long. It would be great for an adult.

Surprisingly good quality
My son wanted this for Christmas. I thought it would be like what you’d find in a costume or a dollar store but I was pleasantly surprised. It is nicely made, not easily bendable but also not TOO hard so he can’t “accidentally” hurt his sister with it.

Center of balance is a very big issue
To preface this review, I would like to say I am by no means an expert on the subject but I have had both experience and professional training with both European and Asian fencing and martial arts since I was 4 (I am writing this at 18) so I can give some advice about this sword others may not. The sword most certainly looks and functions like a sword, but it has an "issue" that in my opinion should've been mentioned on the listing. The center of balance is about 7 inches from the hilt. What does this mean? In most swords (though it does vary depending on the type and purpose) a sword’s center of balance is closer to around 4 inches from the hilt, including most katanas. This allows the sword to be more maneuverable and feel lighter in motion due to the way mass distribution affects swing inertia. In this sword’s case, it feels more like swinging a “bat.” The blade feels far heavier in motion, to the point where instead of swinging roughly a pound, it feels like swinging several pounds. The majority of this weight is being directed towards the tip of the blade. This can be useful for practicing very specific cuts or strength-focused training (though keep in mind if you then move to an actual steel bladed sword you will be put off balance due to the difference in feel), but if you want to practice more complex movements, combinations, or forms, this blade is most likely not going to be for you. I would say this sword feels more of an odachi than a katana but with a smaller blade and hilt. I have not yet decided whether I will return it, but I am leaning in that direction and will update this review if I do. The hilt itself feels decent; however, if you do not have larger hands or if your hands are prone to getting cut or irritated, I would recommend using gloves for a better grip. In short the sword grip wise feels alright but the actual sword mechanics have some problems.

All Around Built
I don't have too much to say, other than I wish I could've gotten some Scabbards (sheaths) with the swords for practice draws and sheathing. Has nice weight in blade and feel in the hilt, and a cool blade-like design (I just got the normal variants - no dragon/fire). The Tsuba (hand guard) seems flimsy, but hasn't cracked or broken yet with my usage. Although one could practice without it. Very happy with this choice! ^,..,^
