Good choice.
This is my first kit. The instructions are next to useless, but there are plenty of youtube videos on the subject. I made my own scales from a nice piece of solid oak, I didn't stain it, but I did finish it with an oil finish and it looks beautiful, white shiny wood on a shiny stainless blade. I stained the sheath with wood stain and it turned out nice, I then finished the sheath with shoe polish and wax. I wear this knife every day and it is easy to sharpen, I find it needs to be touched up every few days, but it holds a decent edge. Definitely a good quality knife once you get it finished. It is perfect for cutting rope, I own plenty of knives, most of them serrated towards the base of the blade, this one cuts rope better than a serrated edge. Well worth the money, a great beginning kit, and a great knife once you have it made.

Very nice blade
I liked this blade. This is my first purchase from "Sarge" and I'm very happy with it. It has a very high, consistent polish which takes time to do right. I was able make a finished knife using , orange wood, I think, which turned out great and a leather sheath with snakeskin inlay.

Nice gift
This was a gift to my son. It was sharp and felt like the leather was quality. I'd buy another.

Nice blade, blade had a decent edge on it ...
Nice blade, blade had a decent edge on it when it arrived, good quality sheath, instructions could have been better but if you already have an idea what to do or some woodworking experience no problems. Used some walnut I had left over from another project and came out very nice. Not a bad knife for the price, will most likely buy the Skinner and more of these to finish and give as gifts.

Good blade
I usually make my blades, but I was in a hurry. Good little blades. Put a handle on it and you've got a good knife.

Sarge Knife Kit
This Sarge Knife kit was the first I purchased. I had made scales for knives before and this one looked interesting. I had never used a kit project before. I needed a birthday gift for my nephew who is an active fly fisherman and doesn't have a knife to take on the river. This seemed like a good choice and it was. The knife went together fine but getting the excess material out of the finger slot was quite difficult. Interior curves are hard to manage without doing damage to the metal blade and without a special sander. I took a dowel and cut a slot in it. Then I cut a piece of 80 grit sandpaper into a strip and used the dowel as a holder for the paper in my drill press to take out the excess wood in that finger slot. It took a long time but it did work. It all turned out fine but it took more than an hour to sand out just that one little spot. The wood is teak and the pins are hardware store 5/32" brass rod. I think this one turned out pretty nice for a beginner with minimal tools.

I like it!
I like how this came together. I had zero experience with knife making and I feel like I turned out a decent looking knife with this kit. I am thinking about building a forge for knife making but I wanted to try this kit and see how it goes before I invest in a forge. I used some purple heart wood that I had to make the knife scales and purchased a 5 minute epoxy to glue it up. I used a jig saw to rough out the shape and a hand held belt sander, random orbital sander and a dremel to get the wood sanded even with the steel and then used sandpaper and did the rest by hand. No special knife making tools and some scrap wood I was able to finish this knife and I am happy with how it looks. It feels good in my hands and fits tightly into the provided sheath. The knife was not super sharp from the factory but I will put a better edge on it. Overall I would recommend this to first time knofe makers like myself.
