So I'll be honest, I was frigging clueless about all this stuff a few months ago! I picked these up on a hope I could get em figured out for my needs. Just want decent sound to add to some videos. Not only are they easy to use, even for someone with 0 experience, the quality is astounding for the price. I would have expected to pay more for this kind of audio quality, i just assume hollywood crap is tens of thousands lol. This is good enough where it sounds professional quality. I'm sure there's better. But no one will be able to tell unless you're using these for something other than picking up dialog i would say.

This product really is great. We had heard a lot about it for years but weren’t sure if it was worth buying when we already had two Zoom H1 recorders to capture audio for wedding films. The build quality is a bit cheap and the menu isn’t the quickest to navigate BUT-it has excellent audio quality up to 48 kHz / 24-bit-features dual backup recording (at -6 dB or -12 dB)-has a screw locking mic input, which is way less likely to ever disconnect-it doesn’t look like a big difference but it really does feel noticeably much smaller, lighter, and less intrusive than the ZoomThe price is certainly worth those insurance features alone to avoid catastrophe and gain the peace of mind it brings. All-in-all, I think this is the list of best recorders I can recommend:Tascam DR-10L - best lav mic recorderZoom H1 - slightly more versatile with the built-in mics but doesn’t have the same safety featuresTascam X8 - ultimate versatility with built-in mics, 4 combo jack inputs, 32-bit float capability, and loads more (but more complicated)Zoom F3 - simplest and has the safety net of 32-bit float recording (but only 2 XLR inputs and less control)

It gives a fantastic result but the menus might be confusing to non-technical people. If you already use cameras and are used to menus then you should have no problem. Also, it would be great to have some sort of remote monitoring option (which it does not). For video its great if you know how to sync in post. For strictly audio recording a single person its probably the best value for your money on the market.

Great product, I just wish I could buy a replacement tascam white lapel mic with the screw lock because after lots of use outdoors (4 years), it's not so white, but slightly yellow. Cleaning it did not help, but there was some improvement after using hydrogen peroxide and sunlight on just the cable, not the ends (google "retrobright").

I had it in black originally but when I got hired to do a wedding I decided to mic the bride and figured that the white version would be perfect if needed to be concealed on a white dress. It literally worked wonders for me. The best part is that it records an safety track at lower volume in the event that you end up needing it. It was fantastic. Sure the audio is recorded externally and needs to be synched, but you won't have to worry about any interference or out of range issues from a wireless kit. I would highly recommend it.
