Q: Does this only work for Hornby trains or can it control Bachmann trains etc?

As long as it has a DCC chip in the loco yes it will run Hornby heljan and bachmann locomotives. This is what I use on my DCC layout

Q: .I currently have a guagemaster, which can control 2 lines. Does the Elite take up both lines as long as there is power to both.

My husband says he runs 4 lines at once and as had 10 trains running at same time,he also as 4 accessorie decoders with 16 point motors that all work perfectly

Q: Why is a dcc controller not dcc ready?

It's a typo in the description. It only does DCC and therefore is DCC ready.
