This is an amazing bit of kit
This is an amazing bit of kit! I love that it has so many features to it and is so simple to use. I have scanned an MG TF already and it worked well. Love the live data, ability to record it, graph it and print it. The hints for the OBD codes aren't on all of them, and they are only a couple of ideas to try to solve the problem. Best bet is to try them and then go on the net to see manufacturer specifics. It is a useful addition though, especially if you are not a mechanic. As has been said, this is definitely geared for the US market, but for the car enthusiast it is a useful tool to have at a great price. If you don't need graphing, the AL 419 might be for you, it is cheaper - but only by about £15, so worth the extra in my book. You only need to use it once or twice to make your money back against garage labour anyway! It only works from the OBD cable or the USB cable. It does not have batteries, but this isn't too much of a problem. Not like you purchased it to surf the net on or do word processing! You'll use it connected to a car.Don't be worried if it turns up in a foreign language. Just install the software from the CD onto a computer, download the two update files from http://www.autel.us/updates/upal519.htm and then update it. The update option in the setup menu is the very last option. Simple! Will be in English after that.Worth the price if you service your own car or do work on cars to a limited extent. Anything more and you'd probably want to start looking at a more expensive, specialized scan tool.

Great value
Compact and sturdy, coloured screen bright leds, which makes reading the screen much easir than other readers, extensive vehicle coverage, great entry level reader, for an enthusiastic home mechanic oŕ mobile mechanic starting out. Very easy to use and start up, should have bought one sooner.

Basically a plug and play code reader.
Good code reader feels solid and substantial. Doesn't need a power source, and turns on as soon as plugged into the OBD port. Picks up codes quickly and accurately, although the descriptions can be a bit off and you'll need to check online to confirm the codes. Good live data function as well. Comes in a handy bag to store away in.

Amazon are shipping the WRONG VERSION for the UK
I'd think twice about buying this product from Amazon.... After wasting several hours trying to understand why it didn't work as expected, I eventually spoke to Autel support in the UK who confirmed that the licence number (printed on the back of the unit) starting with "EUBE" is for mainland Europe, NOT the UK. The unit I have is configured with three languages - Polish, Dutch and Italian - not much use to an English guy who was rubbish at foreign languages at school!. Autel support also told me that the language selection is built into the hardware of the scanner; in other words, it can't even be fixed by a software update. I'll be packaging this up and sending it back to Amazon for a refund. If you want to buy one of these (and it does look like a good piece of kit), go somewhere else and get the supplier to confirm that they're selling the UK model.Update:-I spoke to Autel support again and, contrary to what I'd been told earlier, was assured that a software update WOULD update the language options to include English. After a few problems I eventually managed to update the device and it now works fine. The update process uses an Autel application called Maxi-Link II. Apparently it doesn't like running in a 64-bit environment, so my first problem was to find and install my old 32-bit version of Windows XP. However, that didn't solve the problem... Maxi-Link II recognised the connected AL519 OK, but clicking the "update" button resulted in nothing happening at all. I was running Windows XP on a Mac under a Parallels virtual machine and thought that might be contributing to the problem, so I made use of a neighbour's laptop which was running Windows 7 natively. The update then worked. Like another reviewer, I found that immediately after the update the menu options were all hex gobbledegook. That was easily overcome by selecting the language option in the set-up menu based on its position in the list. After that, everything was fine.According to Autel support, the initial problem arose because Amazon move stock around from one location to another in order to meet stock shortfalls. The problem is that not all AL519 units are alike because they're individually configured with a selection of three languages to suit the geographical area in which they're intended to be sold. That's how I managed to end up with a unit that spoke Polish, Dutch and Italian, but not English. Perhaps Autel should make the internal configuration of the product more obvious on the packaging so that organisations like Amazon don't make the mistake of thinking they're all the same.I've changed my rating of the AL519 from one star to three. It is a nice piece of kit, but the update process isn't foolproof, the Maxi-Link II software is needlessly fussy about its environment, and an update process that results in the menu options being displayed in hexadecimal is clearly seriously flawed. One big plus for this unit is Autel UK's support. I initially sent them an e-mail and left a voicemail when I first discovered that my AL519 didn't speak English. I got responses from both within a couple of hours. The second support guy I spoke to in particular could not have been more helpful. While I've given the AL519 three stars for the moment, I'd happily give Autel UK support five stars.
