Now that I have had more time with this, it does not work. The seat still loosens off after a while, it just takes longer than it did before.

I had considered a different option. There is another kit that has two plastic pieces that you screw to the bottom of the seat, such that they will touch the upper bowl region of the toilet, limiting the movement. I decided two things: Number one, it isn't fixing the problem - bolts and nuts that allow the seat to slide out of position. Number two, if the seat really slides out of position, then if you lift the lid, you might have to close the lid carefully to align the two 'anchors.' The problem is there is no equivalent of lock washers in the hardware that comes with seats. ,this kit does exactly that. The rubber pieces go into the holes around the bolt (on the bottom) thus providing something that holds the nut in place. And, it does it without any danger of cracking the porcelain, like a metal lock washer might do. Mone caution: Use only the wrench provided. You can still crack the porcelain if you use a metal wrench to over-tighten the nuts. This wrench will prevent over-tightening the nuts. That is if you use only your hand to hold the wrench, without a cloth in your hand. Used properly, when your palm is slightly hurting, you have tightened the nuts just right. Before you order this, make sure that the side to side motion isn't in the toilet seat hinge, as this kit won't fix that. Only a new and better quality toilet seat will fix that. Know that this locks the bolts and nuts into position. If you, somehow, cause a large side to side motion, all the strain will be on the hinge. Some toilet seats have hinges that can actually pop off. These have a plastic piece attached to the seat that slides and clamps onto a plastic rod, which is part ofmthe hinge. I see these mostly on decorative lids, in large discount stores, such as Walmart. Mone could argue that this design prevents too much stress being put on the bolts, which could feasibly crack the porcelain. In other words, if you are somehow actually providing a large amount of side to side force onto the seat, you might want to re-think your 'procedure!'. Otherwise, these work great! (I could have said only that, but your brain wouldn't have made more neural connections! You're welcome!
