I had the same problem of working on games development ...
I had the same problem of working on games development directly from my idea in my head which resulted in unfinished games after months of modeling texturing even writing scripts. As may be the ideas in this book may seem intuitive to some people it made me focused on what was I missing from the beginning of book, organize my idea and research before even begin developing and also see the world around me in new perspective.

My background is as a student in game design at Full Sail University. I have learned almost everything this guy has to say in the book. Likes -Good ideas on level design and for the most part accuarate -Easy read Dislikes -He leaves out a lot but for someone just starting this is a decent book.

Fantastic!
If you are seriously considering game development start with this book. I wish I had this book when I first fell in love with level building back in the farcry series. I really enjoyed chapter 9 the most, creating a top down perspective. Now that I have a better understanding of preproduction, I feel more confident starting and finishing a level or desigb.

He very narrowly focuses on FPS level and doesnt bother to explore other genre(not that thats a bad thing but he should have titled it accordingly). However the steps to he described to bringing your level ideas from your mind and converting it into a reality in a proper and faultless fashion is amazing and on par with industry standard. Key word here is Implementation and not idea generation something that this book does not even bother to explore.

Una specie di "sistema completo" in 11 step per pianificare ambienti di gioco e level design, pensato per la produzione di livelli veri e propri ma può tornare utile come manuale per la realizzazione di livelli "portfolio". Include anche (cosa non scontata) degli esercizi pratici alla fine di ogni capitolo. Ottimo per principianti, anche se ci sono alle volte delle ridondanze e in generale poco risulta applicabile nel comparto 2D, essendo maggiormente focalizzato sul level design per il 3D. La metodologia è solida e applicabile immediatamente quindi lo consiglierei tranquillamente a tutti gli studenti e aspiranti designer.

All of the info is on their website, but having a paper copy is great. The print quality is good, and the material is fantastic. Highly recommend for any game dev, no matter how experienced.
