Good Quality Excellent Light
After using the GVM 80W Video Light for over 4 months, I can confidently say this light has been an excellent investment for my photography and video setups. Here’s why I’m still satisfied with it: Versatile Color Temperature: The ability to adjust the color temperature from 2700K to 7500K has allowed me to adapt the light to various shooting environments, from warm indoor setups to cooler outdoor scenes. After months of use, the adjustments are still smooth and accurate. Reliable Color Accuracy: The CRI of 97+ continues to impress. Whether I'm shooting products or filming, the color accuracy remains true, which is vital for keeping the shots looking natural without needing to correct the colors in post-production. App Control – A Game Changer: The app control has become an essential feature for me. I can adjust the settings remotely without physically interacting with the light, which has been incredibly useful, especially for hard-to-reach setups. It’s still working flawlessly after several months. Bowens Mount Flexibility: I’ve used several modifiers with the Bowens mount, including softboxes, and everything fits perfectly. This makes it a very versatile light, allowing me to control the spread and intensity of the light. Battery and AC Power Flexibility: The dual power options have been very convenient. When I’m shooting in the studio, I plug it in, but for on-location shoots, the NP batteries come in handy, providing consistent performance. Even after using it for months, the battery life is still strong and reliable. Build Quality: The light has held up well over time. It’s durable, lightweight, and still performs as expected, without any overheating or issues. It’s also easy to transport and hasn’t shown any signs of wear. Conclusion: The GVM 80W Video Light has proven to be a dependable light source after 4+ months of use. It offers flexibility, reliable performance, and ease of use. If you're looking for an affordable yet high-quality light for photography or video work, this is definitely a solid choice.

Great light, gets the job done. Will be getting a second one.
Being able to switch from cord to batteries is amazing, with the additional separate purchase of a spot light accessory mount Ive been able to get a powerful spotlight effect with the light. I plan to use for music videos soon, seems more convenient outside than other lights. Out of my 4 lights, its in my top 2 to use. Recommend it, definitely though take 5-10 minutes to get comfortable with it and how to use it properly.

Poor Quality.
Overall, for the price especially, GVM have been making really great products, however this light has stopped working 3 months after I bought it. Initially I thought maybe it was just a faulty unit, but then the second one I bought also stopped, so disappointed with GVM for the poor reliability with this model. Would definitely recommend staying away from this product if you value your hard earned money.

Excellent light!
With 2x 8800mah I managed 2.5hrs at full brightness! App is sluggish but reliable.

Nice Capable Monoblock Studio Light, but with some missing accessories
I do primarily video shoots in support of interviews and some visual effects work. I’ve also done stills for product shots and fashion modeling. I prefer studio lighting over flash as a result, and I’ve been on the lookout for a simple studio light that can throw a decent amount of light. When I researched this GVM 80W Video Light, I decided to try it out. PROS -nice basic LED light. It’s a COB (Circuit on Board) design weighing 2.6 lbs (1.2kg) -color temperature range from 2700-7500K. Color Temperature can be daylight or tungsten. CRI is 97+, and there are some lighting effects such as Lightning, Candlelight, TV Screen Flicker, Fireworks. -lighting and effects can be controlled by a smartphone app for iOS/Android. It’s not too bad, but there's a registration step that is entirely in Chinese (I used Google Translate). -power via AC adapter or Sony NP-F batteries. This is nice! The AC option is great for a studio, and the Sony batteries can be found pretty much anywhere. -nice ratcheting light stand adapter. I feel secure that once tightened down, the light angle won’t shift. -Bowens mount. This is great for mounting reflectors, softboxes and snoots since it’s a universal mount in the industry. -price. It’s below $150 which means if it gets dropped, stolen or misused, it’s pretty easy to replace. CONS -no LED cover. You have a nice big LED emitter, but there is no protection for it? I measured the outer diameter, and found that a silicone boot for insulated drink bottles could fit over the LED COB. The silicone boot I chose specifically mentioned that it can fit a slightly smaller diameter, so it’s a nice snug fit over the LED ( Wuqid Silicone Boot, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BVZ47J8B). It’s at least basic protection against scratches and debris. -how do you pack up this thing? The light comes in a very nice cardboard box that’s well padded. But the box is 17 x 12.5 x 6.5 inches (43cm x 31cm x 17cm). That’s huge! In a studio setting, yes I can leave it on a Century Stand, but I prefer to safely put away my gear between sessions. I’m thinking of finding a small travel cooler for drinks... but why do I, the end user, need to think about this? The Control Application can be easily accessed from the QR Code on the top of the monolight for both iOS and Android. You download the app, then type in your email. GVM then sends a verification code back the email, so that’s nice. But then... you need TWO phones to continue. Why? Because to add your password, the registration screen is in Chinese. Google Translate handled it fine, but it’s a major oversight for a company that wants to sell their products to Western consumers. Once you deal with that, the app is in English and works fine. You pair up your monolight and your phone, and you are good to go. If you have more than one GVM Light, you can create a network. I used two different lux meters and measured the output at 1 meter from the LED and also 0.5 meter. Here’s what I got after recording about 5 mins on each setting: 2700K° 0.5M = 335 lux (max) 1.0M = 130 lux (avg) 7500k° 0.5M = 256 lux (max) 1.0M = 118 lux (avg) Overall, this is a nice basic light! Looking at other GVM lights, this is missing the rear handle for positioning, so it’s a good idea to always have gloves handy when dealing with any light kits. There is a small fan in the rear of the monolight, but it hasn’t gotten in the way of any mics on my shoots. I tried playing with the effects... I’m not entirely sold on them. I’d need a light with triple the output so I can have a good working distance from my subject before I think about these. Any effects that I do try on set have been with gels and scrims and are fairly rare in my work. This makes for a nice modeling light if you can leave it just out of a shot; wider shots are a little tweaky. But this has been a good introduction to the GVM lights, and I’ll check out some of their more powerful lights in the future.

Good budget compact light.
I picked up a couple of these to replace older/larger lights. Fit nicely into half the space of the old ones, just as bright, and dual color. A great buy.

Came with scratches
It seems like a great light, very bright, easy to use. Ill be taking it with me on a shoot this weekend to test it out. So far, the one complaint I have is that the unit I recieved had scratches on the screen.

I purchased the GVM SD80S 80W video light for my home content setup, and after a few weeks of regular use, I’m happy with it overall. Brightness is definitely impressive for its size—plenty of output for talking head videos and small product shoots. The color temperature adjustment works smoothly, and CRI seems accurate. I appreciate the Bowens mount compatibility. I attached a small softbox, and it holds up fine as long as the modifier isn’t too heavy. The app control is a nice feature, though setting it up was slightly confusing—some parts of the registration process show up in Chinese, but once connected, it works reliably. One small minus: the light doesn’t come with a protective cover for the COB LED, so I have to be extra careful when packing it. Build quality is solid but not premium—feels mostly plastic. For the price I paid, it’s hard to beat. I’d recommend it to beginners or anyone looking for an affordable, portable studio light for YouTube or photography.

Great piece of kit! Compact and light with lots of punch. I'm a big fan of GVM lights. I've got a few in my bag now. Quality products at fair prices.

This review is mainly for the product condition and GVW's customer support service. The light kit arrived seemingly okay in its Amazon box, inner box, and inner GVW case. When I opened it, the hood was clearly bent, though I do not see how this could happen because the hard shell case it comes in had no damage. I can only guess the lens hood was either put in the box that way, or this was a product returned by another customer. I contacted GVW's support direct, and they have no real support or warranty service available in Canada. I asked to have the hood replaced (I sent them the photos) and they told me they have no warehouse or parts availability in Canada, and advised instead to do a Amazon return. Problem is, Amazon doesn't offer the pickup service for this product, so I have to take time and effort to visit a Purolator depot to drop this off. Because I already have 3 GVW lights, I need to stay with the brand (for now) as I use all them via the same App; this means I will have to re-order this light, but I'm not thrilled with the damaged product, or the low level of service from GVW in Canada. If you're on the fence, or not married to this brand, you might want to consider another, like Neewer, who do offer some Canadian warranty and replacement parts service.
