Excellent piece of kit for the aquatic breeder.

Mounted this on a 120L community tank to isolate fry and a stressed guppy—worked spot-on. It hangs externally, so it doesn’t take up space inside the tank. Water circulates from the main tank using an air pump (not included), keeping temperature and chemistry consistent. No heater needed, no separate filtration—just plug in and go. it works well. I've used it several times now with platys. Thin layer of dark gravel, a bit of guppy grass / java moss, and a pregnant female can go into the breeder with as much as a couple of weeks to go and stay there without getting stressed. It's big enough that fry can get away into hiding. I found that even with the weir / grid thing at the outflow, quite a lot of fry got washed into the main tank, which didn't actually cause a problem given it was a shrimp tank, but obviously would depending on the tank's inhabitants. I guess a piece of foam might keep the fry from washing over if that was a concern. The downside is the airlift, which is noisy / gulpy and not the most efficient. I keep meaning to find a small water pump to move the water rather than the airlift, but haven't got round to it. There's a bunch of youtube vids with hacks some of them to quieten the llow. That said, it does work, it's quick and easy to set up, equally to take down and clean. I wouldn't consider anything but the large one.

Attached a tiny water pump running on 3 volts to the end of the air-bubbler tube, so pumping water directly from the tank into it. This is virtually silent, as opposed to air pumps which can be quite noisy. Has been working well for a few months as our baby Platys get big enough to put back in the main tank. Ironically, since I set this up, our tank inhabitants have developed a taste for Platy fry, so I hardly ever see them before theyre eaten! Incidentally, Im not sure Id want to put a pregnant adult the size of a Platy in this for too long - its quite small if you include the separator plastics.

It is OK . . . I like that it comes with cleverly designed spacers to change the angle at which it hangs, so you can hang it vertically no matter the thickness of your tank's trim. I also like that it seems pretty tough and the plastic is clear. Sadly the air lift was both very noisy and inefficient. I solved this by attaching a micro pump to the inlet via some tubing, but this was way too strong as it is only 2 litres and even a tiny pump will do 50-100 litres per hour. Easily fixed with a couple of drilled holes in the tubing to deliberately make the flow less efficient. This now works well and is extremely quiet. Second problem is that the "grill" that prevents fry from being flushed over the "water fall" return has slots that are far too wide for smaller fry. The obvious solution is a bit of filter foam, BUT you do have to be very careful: Use too coarse a foam and your fry will get stuck in it, but use too fine or too thick a piece of foam and you slow the outlet too much and then its over spilling along the length of the box. If you have hungry fish in your main tank this could be disastrous! It took a lot of experimenting (some pretty fraught moments!) too get a piece of foam just the right PPI and thickness to make it fry safe. I will be experimenting with fine netting material in future as I think this will be less obstructive to water flow but ensure fry are safe at the same time. By the way, with a pump attached the throughput will clear the tank of baby brine shrimp too quickly so I put it on a timer to just run for 30 minutes every few hours, giving the fry ample time to eat. I'm aware I've probably over complicated what was meant to be simple, but the noise from the air lift was way too loud to live with.

Super easy to assemble and get started up. Very sturdy, instructions were clear and all in all a great purchase. A lot deeper than I expected too! The air flow alone may be a bit gentle for some so you can add a small filter to allow for more flow but all in all, great purchase! I did add a sponge instead of the provided little grates for added security when fry are beginning to be self sufficient.

I have tried different types of breeding boxes and I consider Fluval holding and breeding box the best among them. It has everything that you need for an aquarium hobbyist. The size is very convenient comparing to others while I wish if Fluval can make a bigger size also. This is a complete set and you won't regret buying it. I highly recommend it.

Ademas de ser de buenísima calidad, no solo sirve como paridera, puedes darle un sinfín de usos como para aclimatar peces, atemperar el agua que introduces en el acuario etc. Necesitas un aireador para su funcionamiento aunque con un poco de ingenio puedes conectarle una pequeña bomba y actuará de igual manera que un filtro mochila. Lo volvería a comprar sin dudarlo.
