The Infra-red Receiver is the link between the train motor and the remote control and is situated in the locomotive. The unit works well and does what it is supposed to. I am very happy with my purchase

当然これ単体では何の意味もなしませんが他のパワーファンクション系商品と組み合わせれば作品の幅が広がります。トレイン系にはほぼ必須のアイテムとも言えます。ただし受信機が隠れると反応が悪くなるので受信機をどのように作品に組み込むかは考えないといけません。

A kid's review: This is an infrared receiver designed to go with either of the Lego Power Functions infrared (IR) remote controls. It has a frequency switch (i.e. Imagine you have two Lego Winter Holiday Trains. Set one receiver to one frequency [i.e. frequency 1] and the other receiver to another frequency [i.e. frequency 2]. Set the remote control to one of these two frequencies [i.e. frequency 1], and set the desired speed. Then set the remote control to the other frequency [i.e. frequency 2], and set the desired speed. Now, simply by switching between the two frequencies, you can control both trains.). All in all, a great product.
