SOL 2pk 20m Wiring Cloth Tape, Black Loom Harness Binding Felt for Cars, Motorcycle, Durable and Flexible, Heat-Resistant Adhesive Fabric Strip, Ideal for Automotive Electrical Wire Cable Management

Although I have been involved in wiring and electronics for well over half a century, somehow this excellent looming tape slipped past me! I actually bought this tape to repair a folding cardboard chairside storage box with magnetic closures, that started life as a christmas hamper - and I was able to reinforce the folding seams very neatly with it. This tape may seem similar in application to the usual PVC insulating tapes but is actually very different. It is cloth based (seems to be a tough cotton-like fabric with a medium weave - similar to gaffer, but a more natural fabric). It is softer than gaffer and very flexible, it feels to me more like the old-school ‘camera tape’ though it has a more ‘open’ weave but has a similar matt finish. It is intended for use on wiring harnesses (automotive, wiring trays, point to point looms in chassis etc.) as an alternative to cable ties, wrap, or looming cord. It is decently but not super sticky although, as you would expect from its intended applications, it does adhere to itself very well indeed. Whilst I have not yet had it long enough for a proper test, it does seem that this tape does not leave unpleasant sticky residue when removed (unlike most adhesive tapes and in particular PVC insulating tape!) which makes it a possible choice for securing cable coils - something for which I would normally never use tape! I will probably continue to use velcro ties for this job (already have them everywhere) but will certainly do some tests to see. It’s early days for me with this product, but it it is a good quality tape with good, residue-free adhesion that is very pleasant to use (a surprisingly important attribute in any tool or material). It is tearable but I prefer to use a blade or scissor. I am looking forward to testing it out in its intended role in making up wiring harnesses when I start the re-cabling of my studio racks. Overall this is a very interesting, good quality product with a wide range of potential applications that I wish I had ‘discovered’ much earlier. Every work bench & toolbox should have a roll!

Tape cables for vehicles etc to the original loom standard. I've been looking for a cable loom tape like this for ages, it is strong with tack adhesive which keeps it in place. Easy to use, giving protection to wires, keeping them bunched for additional strength, like original installations. Used to tame the wiring for an aftermarket car head unit.

Really good High Temp Tape and Value for money

Brilliant for car wiring and that original manufacturer look. I also use this to stop panels vibrating against the bodywork and to cover sharp metal work so wiring doesn't chafe. Easy to cut and quite strong adhesive that doesn't give way over time.
