Nice set - the pieces are durable plastic, large size, good weight, felt bottoms and nicely finished. They feel like a good chess piece should. The board is large, lies flat, rolls up and everything fits into the zip-up case which seems to be good quality as well, making it very portable. Came with an extra queen of each color, some stickers and a book of openings and defenses. I paid a little more than some of the other sets available but I wanted a black and white mat, not a green checkered one that seemed to be what came with all the other sets. It's a tournament quality set that I can also play with my 8-year old and not be afraid of him dropping pieces on the floor. Very happy with this purchase.

The pieces feel and look great, smooth and heavy and large. The silicon board has a funny smell but feels good and folds ups compactly.

After reading other reviews, I was leaning heavily towards the A&A Chess Set, and it is total quality in every respect. As a member of a chess club, I brought this set to our weekly meeting and set it up for play. The silicon chess board is truly amazing - it unfolds and lays totally flat on our wood table. A couple of sweeps with my palm and any 'folds' or 'wrinkles' disappear as if by magic. The other members immediately were impressed and complimented me on the set. The pieces themselves are a joy - each one is well crafted and has real 'heft' (gravitas, 'weight') to it. The styling of the pieces is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and makes each chess game joyous regardless of who wins the match. The set is rated as 'championship' size and that is accurately stated. A&A includes some 'packaging candy' (stickers) and the carrying case and black & white carry-bags with drawstrings make a real 'classy' touch. Topping it all off is a pair of extra queens (every pawn is a potential queen as A&A likes to say) for those thrilling end-game promotions! I have experienced many different chess sets, this one is not a toy, it is more an 'enthusiast' level set. The notations along the board edges make it easy to log each move if you so choose. If you love chess or want to impress a chess aficionado in your life, this set will be a hit, no question. The tactile 'feel' of each piece is remarkable, and appear to be made of a resin material for durability. The pawns have nice rounded tops with no seams or rough edges. The bishop styling is superb, and the knight artistry is stunning. Every aspect of this item is pleasing to the eyes and to your hands when making moves or capturing opponent's pieces. You can instantly tell what each of you have lost on the battlefield by casting your gaze aside to look at the captured pieces beside the board. Of all the things I have purchased from Amazon over the years, both little and large, this by far is in the top echelon and gets my strong buy recommendation. It will not disappoint, be it a personal acquisition or a gift for a friend or relative.

Excellence in every way. The pieces are heavy, beautiful, and strong. The silicone board: perfect. The small carrying case holds all perfectly and is very well made. You can't go wrong purchasing this set.

This was purchased for my grandsons (14, 8, & 5) so they could play when they visit. They have been playing on an antique carved wooden set which I would like to preserve. I like it because I think the larger squares and high contrast of pieces has helped all of them—especially the 5 yo. The size does make it easier to practice strategies. Pros: 1) the pieces are nicely weighted, very attractive, and the set comes with extra queens. 2)The mat is a very soft silicone and was easily flattened right out of the packaging. They had played on another set similar to this and the mat was difficult to flatten after rolling it to transport to school etc. 3) The set comes with a substantially hard storage case for the pieces.The case zips to a closed position and is easy for the youngest to close; the pieces store in the case easily. 4) of course the pieces have fallen on the floor with no chipping yet (a plus!) Cons: none yet; I am curious to see if the soft silicone mat holds up overtime. Overall, this is a good set and I would highly recommend!

The pieces are beautifully designed, crafted, and weighted— can’t be beat. The outer case is sturdy and classy (except its handle which, as others have noted, is oddly cheap in contrast to everything else). The soft cloth piece bags— wow, what a nice touch! The pieces slide on the silicone board with a smoothness I’ve never seen/felt with anything else and the square color is a unique, non-glaring dark gray, very easy on the eyes. Even the packaging is a cut above. Bravo to A&A for pulling this together— you can tell that they are going the extra mile for the customer to deliver something top notch, truly setting themselves apart with a product not really like anything else, all at a fantastic price point for the quality you get. Drawbacks, why I have decided it’s not right for me, and why I’ll be returning it: 1) Sorry, the silicone board, while necessary to provide the compact set size, never does get the kinks completely out after storing folded— the eye is drawn to the ripples and kinks, it smells a little (not bad, would probably eventually go away), and it creates a LOT of static electricity, attracting too much pet hair, crumbs, etc. 2) As a tournament player, I MUST have a dedicated, protected place for a clock as part of the case. Keep going A&A! Still rooting for you and I’ll keep watching for a set from you that remedies the above!

Hola, escribo esto con la intención de ayudar a los que leen este opinión, el paquete me llegó en perfecto estado, no hubo retrasos con el envío el empaque correcto, a diferencia de varias reseñas que revisé, todo me llegó en perfecto estado el juego completo, se ve tal cual las imágenes que nos muestran no hay cambios con eso, solo tengo una pequeña queja al respecto y es, el peso del ajedrez, tengo un Ferriz triple peso el cual se me despinto de sus piezas blancas por lo cual lo cambié , la descripción marca cuádruple peso que deben portar, pero mis piezas triple peso son más pesadas que estas no por mucho es casi nada pero puede notarse lo cual fue algo que me disgustó por que esperaba fueran un poco más pesadas, tienen un buen peso en muy similar al triple peso es agradable pero si esperas sean más pesadas y eso es lo que buscas tal vez te sea un factor para decidirte entre uno y otro que tengas planeado comprar, otra cosa que puedes notar es que los caballos son un poco más grandes que unos tamaño oficial o en esta mente desconozco si haya algún problema en presentase a un torneo con uno de estos por la diferencia de tamaños o si a alguien le disguste. Conclusión: La calidad es buena, el peso es agradable aun que sean ligeramente menos pesadas de lo que deben de ser, es bonito a la vista no molesta los colores, me parece un buen kit de ajedrez por el precio siempre y cuando te llegue en perfectas condiciones, si lo que quieres es un bonito ajedrez con un estuche donde guardar tus piezas con un peso decente a un precio Justo, este es tu set, cabe aclarar que este es mi tercer ajedrez soy relativamente nuevo en esto así que si solo quieres saber si lo recomiendo o no la respuesta es, que si , suerte en su búsqueda de un ajedrez y si te has decidido por este o otro te deseo suerte y que te llegue todo en perfecto estado.

Many thanks to A and A for this chess set. I wanted to leave a positive review as I am very happy with it. I wanted a tournament size chess set that packs away with a fold away silicone board and this is the one. But I also really wanted quality weighted pieces with stunning designs, the give aways are making sure they have a nice weight, matt finish, feel quality, and also the design of the chessmen, in particular the knight. I think this is probably as excellent a quality chess set you can get thats made of plastic. The next level would be spending a hundred or a couple hundred on a wooden carved premium chess set. I do not think thats needed though, as this classic staunton chess set is beautiful, and I especially like the knights, well designed and detailed, but not over the top. Reminds me a little of the 1972 chess world championship set. The carry bag is also nice quality and a helpful addition to the set. It is exactly as pictured, buy with confidence.

Sturdy, perfectly weighted, awesome non-wrinkle board, all in a cool, well-built carrying case. Paid a bit more than I was budgeting, but once it arrived I realized it was worth every penny!

I loved it at first sight, even though it is made of plastic and silicone, it feels luxurious and beautiful when you see and touch it. I was thinking of buying a product at a reasonable price and in the future I can buy expensive chess set, but I think I will keep this chess set for a long time and I do not feel that I need to buy another product. The silicone is of high quality and the pieces are very weighty and beautiful. I recommend it strongly.

I bought this for my daughter who has Autism to upgrade her from a small wooden set to something that looked like a full size board with larger pieces and that were pure black and white in colour, I was also looking out for solid pieces that weighed a bit more and did not feel plastic and light. This chess set arrived packaged very well in a solid box and it was heavy. It came with leaflets/postcards/cloth bags. The silicon boars is better than I thought and will lay flat on carpet or any surface without any wrinkles and it grips to the surface so wont slip. I was expecting to throw it away thinking it would be crap but its actually OK. The Chess pieces themselves are great! you even get spare queens!! I was very pleasantly surprised by the weight of them! They feel heavy and weighted which is fantastic exactly what I was looking for. My daughter loves this chess set. Much better than I expected for the price.
