Black Diamond Equipment Apollo Lantern

This lamp is awesome. Really, truly awesome. Its incredibly bright, extremely stable with the legs extended, and the little hanging hook on top is genius. It throws an especially clean, bright, even white light, and it does so with little to no glare. (totally dependent on how high it's hung) It's also water-resistant, and you can equip it with a rechargeable that can charge without being removed. That's handy!It also feels very well put together.Its so handy I'll sometimes use it as a bedside nightstand lamp when I'm staying somewhere that doesn't have one.I had a chance to compare it to a $12 Chinese LED lamp my inlaw bought (which broke and I subsequently fixed). While they are about as bright, the Black Diamond throws a far more even, useful white light versus the other lamps splotchy bluish light. They both work well, but the Black Diamond is clearly the superior choice, and the improved performance worth the 3x higher price tag.My only criticism - and this neither affects my rating nor will it impact most people - is that it doesn't "remember" that last brightness setting use. In other words, if you turn it on, dim it all the way down, then turn it off it will still turn back on at full brightness. For me, I'd normally file that under "nice to have" instead of "legit criticism" were it not for the fact that the smaller, cheaper Black Diamond Orbit lantern - part of the same product line and everything - DOES remember the brightness.Why is this important? If you need to turn on the lamp late at night without waking up your tent-mate, having it switch on at Low Brightness when you set it there is a must.A straw man might say that this lamp is designed more to sit outside on a picnic table and light up a cooksite or a card game, whereas the Orbit is much more ideal for a tent (especially with its shorter throw and handy secondary down-firing light). But I'd rather not need to carry 2 lanterns if I don't have to.That being said, I love this lantern, and would absolutely replace it if lost, stolen, or broken.

Ive been looking for a led lantern and done some research so I decided to give the apollo a try. Right off the bat I like the size compared to a coleman gas lantern I have, the apollo is roughly the size of a can of pop closed up. Since I have some flashlights that use AA batteries I also want the lantern to use the same so I dont have to carry different sizes while camping, I did some testing to see how long batteries would last at full power and with energizer lithiums I got 12hrs run time out them at 85f degree temp. DONT BOTHER with alkalines unless you want to carry LOTS of them with you, I also bought the orbit lantern and tried alkalines in that one, it drained them in about an hour! Testing the lantern outside in pitch black darkness it throws a good size diameter light pattern, if you elevate the lantern 6-7 feet above ground level. Easily will have enough light for your camping area and I personally dont think I will even run it at full power, probably 1/2 or higher will do so therefore extending battery life even further. The legs on the lantern are nice to have if you dont have a tree or something you can hang it from, the light is definately stable when standing on them. Some people have stated this light wouldnt be appropriate for backpacking, I would kinda disagree with that, it is bigger than the orbit but compared to other lights that I have it is small. To me this lantern is the "do all" light, power outage? It could provide enough light for a living room or kitchen area with no problem. It definately would excell taking it car camping but I wouldnt hesitate to throw it in my backpack either, it really has more than enough power to light the area up without disturbing the rest of the camp. The lowest power setting is 10 lumens, which I find just right inside a small tent for a night light effect. The overall quality of the light is really good for the price, no problems so far and I like how evenly the light is spread compared to other lanterns I have seen (namely the coleman exponent collapsable lantern). The power switch doesnt seam cheap and has a positive feel to it when holding it in to change the power settings. The hanging clips on top are definately well designed and hold the lamp secure from a tree branch or tent poles, the split design is a bonus. This light will probably replace my gas lantern due to size, i feel led tech has come to probably take over the lantern camping world. OH one thing I kinda noticed was bugs werent swarming the light as much compared to my gas lantern, dont know if this has any merit but atleast that night it did.

I researched and researched for a very lightweight, strong, energy efficient lantern. This is undoubtedly the best lantern/flashlight I have. It collapses/slims down to a much smaller size. It has three legs that can be used to level the device on uneven terrain, which was surprisingly important when we were camping on uneven terrain in the boundary waters. Also, the top ring you see is actually two half moon rings!!! This allows you to hand the device easily at for instance the peak of the tent. Another huge plus is the dimming function, and this it gives you a single flash when the lowest dimming level is achieved. Battery life was surprisingly great. Two other guys in my group are planning on purchasing this lantern now that they've seen it in action. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs something lightweight, great light, and good battery life. Your nuts if you don't consider this. Just research it yourself. The reviews are all true.

Got 2 lanterns on the same order, the other being a CREE 40426 110 Lumens, and I'm sad to say this one falls way short. Feature wise this unit does some cool things (collapsible, unfolding legs, adjustable brightness), but there are two big flaws...- The color temperature is very harsh. A cool temp flashlight has pros/cons, but a lantern? I can't imagine wanting to be in the presence of this thing very long. I knew it wouldn't be as warm as the CREE model, but this isn't even close to neutral.- The battery carrier is cheaply made, to the point I'm surprised it didn't break on first use. Simply loading batteries in flexes the entire piece of plastic, and getting the batteries out is very difficult.In the end, decided it would be better to have two CREE 40426's.

Really good. I did managed to accidentally open the battery compartment and drop all the batteries out one night, not sure how. Can't fault it though. I've bought the nrg pack for it, but haven't used it yet so can't comment on how well that might work.

Je fais parti de ces personnes qui préfère acheter de la qualité et je n'ai pas été dessus par ce produit. La qualité est au rendez-vous. Si vous cherchez une lanterne pour du trekking c'est celle qu'il vous faut.

コールマンのledライトを使用していましたが、耐久性に問題があって購入しました。ショップ店頭では定価販売が殆どであり、安く購入できてcpが更に高かったです。主にバイクツーリングで使用していますが、コンパクトで収納性も良く、食事の時間が明るく楽しいです。同社のヘッドランプと併用していますが、鬼に金棒です。

計画停電の時にろうそくと懐中電灯でしのげると思っていましたが、思ったより明るい範囲が狭く、しかも同時に断水してしまうため、当時2ヶ月の赤ちゃんがいてミルクを作ったり手を洗ったりも片手ではできなかったりで困り、こちらを購入しました。サイズはコンパクトにすると小さいペットボトルくらいですが、足がついていてさらに上に持ち上げると伸びるので使用時にはかなり明るくなる範囲も広がります。また、引っ掛けられるのでこれ一つで6〜８畳の部屋で使用する分には十分な明るさです。明るさは部屋の照明の一番暗い（オレンジ色に光る）照明よりは明るいです。単３電池だから電池が品薄の時でも比較的手に入り安いのでは？うちは充電式の電池を購入して使ってます。デザインもオシャレだしいいと思います。
