Jura Blue Smart Connect

This is a great and easy to use product but please note that you have to have the coffee machine powered on before you can use the Bluetooth feature. So unless you have your Jura powered on throughout the night, no “ordering” coffee from bed in the morning. First world problems, I know but that was the only reason I purchased this. It was returned.

It was easy to install in the back of my Jura ENA 4. I downloaded the JOE app to my Samsung phone prior to installing the Blue Smart Connect. It immediately connected to my phone through bluetooth. The app provides access to information in the coffee machine such as percent use of the water filter, the number of coffee cycles, the need for cleaning. You can adjust the temperature of the water and other customizations using the app. As previously mentioned, the machine must be on and you must be near the machine for the bluetooth to connect. I am happy with the purchase for my purposes.

Installed in ENA 8. Works as advertised. Very handy to customize drinks without hassle of using the screen and buttons on the coffeemaker. Also handy to check / initiate cleaning. The iOS software is typically German / Swiss, which is to say awkward and not very well thought out. But I find it helpful nonetheless. My opinion: not worth $60 but OK at about half that.

I have a Jura Fully Automatic X8 and a Z8 as well. The smart connect will only connect to one device, so you can either connect it to the Jura Cool Control Milk Dispenser or you can connect it to the Jura Machine itself. If you connect it to the Jura Cool Control Milk fridge, then it will always let your Jura know when your milk runs too low to make a milk-based drink, prompting you to add more milk before letting your Jura start your drink, which is very helpful. If you connect it directly to your Jura espresso machine, then you can connect the J.O.E. app on your smartphone to it and you can order your next drink from your phone and it will send your drink order via bluetooth to the Jura to make your drink. If you use the J.O.E. app, you better already have a cup waiting on the Jura or it will make your drink and it will just go into your waste reservoir. Since I have to be at the machine to put a cup on the machine anyway, I think the J.O.E. app is a waste of time and very gimmicky so I choose to use the Smart Connect with the Jura Cool Control Milk fridge instead.

We have tried everything, but it will not connect to our machine. I have missed my timeframe to return and have an unusable product. Still trying everything to get it to connect just to the machine. Nothing works. I love my coffee from my machine, but don't ever buy the Wi-Fi connect. It is not worth the headache.

This unit MUST be used through the J.O.E. app, which operates on your WiFi system — not Bluetooth. Because it is in WiFi you can operate it from far away (some people get confused by the manual’s reference to accessories needing to be within 3 meters: the unit allows you to control Jura accessories that are nearby and linked, but the J.O.E. app has no such limitation, so you can send commands to the coffee machine from as far away as your WiFi allows! However, if you don’t have a cup under the nozzle …. So if you like to wake up to a hot coffee, you must manually switch the machine on, unless it comes with an auto-on function, and you need to have a cup in place). The unit is a GREAT addition to all compatible Jura coffee makers, and the app is easy to use.

My wife and I have an E8 and it was pretty irritating that this connectivity is not built in for the price of the machine. They certainly saved plenty of mfg costs using plastic everywhere. Anyway, it was under $50 at the time so I decided to try it. The device basically allows me to customize my preferred options for each drink and save it in the app on my iPhone or iPad for a bit of a time savings over using the adjustments at the time of brewing. It took me twice through the app to get it to save my preferences and save my app layout. Maybe I forgot to save properly first time through. But now they are saved and I don’t have to be at the machine and quick to make the adjustments as it’s going through the brew process. My wife basically set machine for her preferences, not a big difference between us, but at least we each get things as we each prefer. This is not Bluetooth 5.x so distance is more limited and another disappointment for the cost. The complaints about the poor distance are valid due to the outdated Bluetooth 4.x. However at our house I can be at least 20ft away with a couple of walls and it will connect just fine. A lot of Bluetooth issues are due to physical layouts in the home so one persons frustration may not be a problem for another. Inability to turn on the machine is not a big deal for us. It’s a simple matter to turn on machine and let it rinse and warm up as we get our cups out and setup our milk container. We just manually fill an insulated tumbler we have that is working out extremely well. For iOS I do use the Apple Watch app, it lists my last 3 choices. Its not an elegant app. It opens with machine disconnected, tap on it to connect and it starts the connection, but oddly says unable to connect very briefly then immediately shows my last drink and scrolls to my previous. It offers no adjustability but it’s handy for selecting one of your last 3 drinks to make without need to carry phone or tablet. For me, the 3 tend to be my most common selections so it works well. Ultimately you have to be close enough to place your cup under the nozzle so it’s not a huge issue to use the machine display and controls to customize the drink. However with multiple users, it can offer a bit of convenience. That level of convenience is also somewhat dependent on each machine as well since some higher end machine have more built in capability while some lower end offer less. For the E8 it’s a bit of a convenience for me so I don’t goof up my wife’s preferences.

It take a minute to connect but it does the job. Just know that this does not automate turning the machine on so if you think you’ll be sitting in bed while making coffee, you are wrong. Turn machine on, wait for it to rinse, out your mug on and tell Siri to brew your coffee. The only purpose of this is so you could add personal customizations such as adding multiple latte customizations that the machine itself won’t record.

Zuallererst möchte ich was klarstellen: „die Tasse stellt sich aber nicht von allein unter!“ Dieses Contra, wofür der Connector nichts kann, bleibt aber auch das Einzige. Diesen Spruch musste ich mir die nächsten Tage öfters anhören. Denn nicht jeder teilte meine Bewunderung für dieses Gerät. Vor kurzem kaufte ich mir meinen ersten Kaffeevollautomaten. Es wurde ein E80 und nebenbei gesagt, ein Gebrauchter. Noch vor dem Kauf wollte ich die Bezüge einsehen und bemerkte schnell dass dies nicht möglich war. Schon komisch für ein Gerät von knapp 1.000€, aber das ist eine andere Geschichte. Also los zu Juras Servicepartner in Berlin und die Maschine zur Wartung abgeben. Der Techniker verriet mir dass bei vielen Modellen die Bezüge erst mit einem Diagnosegerät ausgelesen werden können. Eine Woche später stand die Jura sauber in der Küche. Ich experimentierte mit verschieden Kaffees herum und wollte auch technisch das Maximum aus der Maschine holen. „Smart Connect“ in die Suche eingegeben und pünktlich einen Tag später bekamen wir das Paket in die Hände geliefert. Schnell ausgepackt, den Connector in den Diagnoseanschluss eingesteckt (manche können sich einen Vorteil schon denken ;) , die Jura App J.O.E. runtergeladen und schon konnte es losgehen. Die Bedienung der App ist meines Erachtens nach selbsterklärend und intuitiv. Das Design ist ansprechend und modern. Die Möglichkeiten gehen über die reine Bedienung des Automaten hinaus. Noch vor kurzem musste ich über das Menü in die Programmierung und die Werte für Kaffeestärke, Wassermenge, Temperatur mit anwählen, abspeichern und zurück für jedes Getränk einzeln einstellen und wusste bis dahin nicht, wie nervig es eigentlich ist. Nun ist es ein Klacks, bzw. ein Zug mit dem Finger. Die kompletten Einstellmöglichkeiten für ein Getränk werden mir auf meinem Display angezeigt. Einige Bewegungen mit dem Finger, auf „Zubereiten“ klicken, ein Countdown mit 3,2,1 zählt runter und die Jura fängt an zu mahlen. Einen Tag später wollte ich die App weiter erkunden. Mir fiel das Symbol mit dem Namen Statistik ins Auge. Hier hinter verbirgt sich nicht nur ein „Produktzähler“, der die Anzahl aller möglichen Getränke anzeigt. Es können sogar Statistiken mit Kuchendiagrammen erstellt werden. Getrennt davon gibt es den „Pflegezähler“ der anzeigt wieviele Filter getauscht wurden und wie oft die Maschine welches Reinigungsprogramm durchlaufen hat. Was verbirgt sich denn hinter dem Mikrofonzeichen? Die Möglichkeit einen Sprachbefehl abzuspeichern. Knapp eine Minute später sagte ich zu meinem Telefon: „Siri, einen Espresso zubereiten.“, 3,2,1 und die Jura fängt an zu mahlen. Die Auswahlmöglichkeit „Bestellung“ ist ein weiteres Feature. Man stelle sich vor wir haben Besuch. Nicht nur 2 Personen, lassen wir es die ganze Familie sein. Bevor wir uns jetzt bemühen uns 5 oder 6 Bestellungen zu merken, holen wir unser Handy raus, wählen den Menüpunkt und das Getränk aus und drücken auf Bestellen. Die einzelnen Getränke kommen grafisch schön auf eine Liste. Man hat auch die Möglichkeit für jedes die Kaffeestärke, Temperatur, Wassermenge und weitere einzustellen ohne das es in der Grundeinstellung überspeichert wird. Das ganze geschieht ziemlich flott und wie schon erwähnt intuitiv. Man geht in die Küche stellt eine Tasse unter drückt auf das Getränk und, genau, 3,2,1 die Jura fängt an zu mahlen. Interessant ist auch, dass man über die App Ersatzteile spezifisch für seinen Automaten, die nebenbei meines Erachtens nach ziemlich günstig für einen Hersteller wie Jura sind, und allgemeine Pflegeprodukte über einen externen Link angezeigt bekommt. Man sollte sich bewusst sein, dass dies ein Bluetooth Connector ist, sprich nur in einem Umkreis von 3 Metern um die Maschine benutzt werden kann. Da die Tasse aber immer noch manuell untergestellt werden miss, ist es für mich kein Punkt Abzug. Für jeden, der sich denken sollte: „dann kann man die Maschine auch nicht vom weiten starten!“. Zum Beispiel wenn man die Tasse Abends untergestellt hat und sich den Kaffee aus dem Bett zubereiten möchte. Ich würde es nicht wollen. Wer mag schon Spülwasser im Morgenkaffee. Denn die Jura spült bei jedem Einschalten. Seien wir ehrlich, diese ganzen Gimmicks sind nicht essentiell. Für einen Preis knapp unter 25€ jedoch eine sehr lohnende Investition die einen teuren Automaten modern und zeitgemäß aufwertet. Und es finden sich weniger Fingerabdrücke auf dem glänzenden Pianolack. Sollte die Bewertung hilfreich gewesen sein, könnte man sie auch als solches markieren ;)
