If all twelve reviewers gave it a five star rating why is the average a 3.9?

That seems to be an Amazon issue. The bag is top notch. I only wish it were less expensive to I could buy more from this line of products.

I have a black leather rawlings briefcase i bought years ago. i love this bag. can't stand the color can you tell me if there is black or dark brown?

If you click on the Amazon Rawlings Store and search “bags” there is a black “Heart of the Hide” leather tote bag. I think it cost more than my first car, but IT IS BLACK, though with much more minimalistic styling. Good luck!

how do you take care of the duffel bag?

We do not check it thru on planes to get really beaten up so it hasn't needed much fussing, but in my opinion if you want to keep it really pristine-pristine you would need to almost travel with it in a protective sleeve. It WILL get scuffs and water marks and patina like a baseball glove. It's the nature of that type of leather. That being said, I've owned lots of vegetable tanned leather. You can clean it with saddle soap, and if it gets water marks that you find distracting you can wipe the entire bag consistently with a wet cloth so it all blends. It will age and discolor in time however so you need to anticipate that. I have had this type of leather briefcases for 20 years and wipe them with very very very watered down coffee and it evens out years of scuffs and scratches. Hope this helps.
