Pentel Graph Gear 1000 Mechanical Pencil, 0.5mm (PG1015)

I’ve used mechanical pencils for 40 years, and this, by far, is the very best I’ve ever used. The lead support cylinder seems to reduce the frequency of lead breakage. Plus, being able to retract the cylinder when not in use keeps it from puncturing other items and myself.

I accidently bought this size instead of the .7 version but decided to keep it! I've been having a lot of fun using it. It has a cool mechanism with the clip part, the lead is well protected, and I like the little cap that covers the eraser! It erases really well, writes well, and is comfortable to hold. Its also pretty heavy compared to the cheaper mechanical pencils that I've owned before. I haven't dropped it or damaged it yet so I say it's also pretty durable ( but I haven't really put it to the test yet.) Overall, pretty cool pencil!

I absolutely love these pencils. Originally purchased one for woodworking and discovered how much I enjoy writing with them - beyond any writing device I’ve used before. The weight and texture are superb. The quality of the mechanism is flawless, ensuring the lead and tip retract every time it’s clipped onto a pocket. I’ve settled in with .5 and .7 for my daily use.

First of all, the value. I looked in many stores and found this device selling usually for over $20.00. It seems the art stores really gouge the real time shoppers. So, for about $10.00 I found this one. It even came in the mail a day or two early......great! It looks great, it feels great and it works great! Probably the only thing that seemed a bit odd was the rather large multipurpose pocket clip/retractor. Thats OK though. That part is really well made and pinned nicely. I don't think you will lose this one easily if you are going to carry it in your shirt pocket. It came loaded with HB lead and I like the fact that it used the standard Pentel erasers as well. I find that this model extends the lead perfectly every time! The lead holder retracts with a healthy snap. I feel confident that this unit is built well and will last a very long time. I bought the silver finished model of which is very beautiful to look at and to hold! Unless you are extremely particular, I don't think you can go wrong buying this nice little unit, especially if you can find it for $10.00. =KL=

I love the quality feel and good grip. It is sturdy and has lasted quite a while. One thing I find a little annoying is that the point doesn't full retract when you click it closed.

Very comfortable to write, the weight and balance is great. The sleeved tip gives a precise feel and does not feel like it’s blocking the view. All features are great and the self-snapping mechanism at the pencil tip joining the plastic body threads gives you an opportunity to enjoy another new pencil every few months. See picture below in comparison with a working 0.7 mm Graphgear 1000.

We have been buying this pencil since our son’s 8th grade year. He is now in his last year in college. It hold up so well, He writes in macro , clean lines, sharpness. No dragging on the paper.
