Great to stop the dangle!
This works exactly as expected. My inreach used to dangle around all the time and this has put an end to it! super easy to attach to the pack strap and easy to remove if you need to hold the inreach at any point. Only downside is that stuff sticks to the velcro every so often... can't win em all!

Works great with the new inReach and older models
A must-have if you're backpacking with your inReach and want to carry it on your shoulder. The velcro straps help you to attach this to your pack shoulder straps, and it has stayed in place just fine on my Zpacks Arc Haul. The velcro that holds the inReach clip to the shoulder mounted piece isn't the strongest, but it's plenty sufficient to keep it where it belongs. Just press it firmly to your shoulder when re-attaching. I took one star away because the tether cord that comes installed on this unit is very bulky and gets snagged up in the velcro. It was also fraying when I took it out of the package. So, I replaced it with some very thin Dyneema cord that I had laying around and it's perfect. The cord no longer sticks to the velcro and it's a much more minimal lanyard but with higher strength. This tether attaches to the new inReach released in 2017, and it's the same clip mount as older models, too. I like that this tether has a quick release clip so if you need to detach the inReach from your pack, it's very simple. Just lift the edge of the clip, and it unlocks from the inReach and slides right off. See the attached pictures for my replacement tether, and showing the attachment to my Zpacks shoulder strap.

Very convenient way to carry your GPS unit.
So you're on a hike and recording your track, and need to check your GPS device regularly to enter waypoints etc. Where to keep your GPS unit? In your pocket, or even a belt clip, your body can block the signal some of the time. The top pocket of your backpack works fine, but not if you need to get at the unit regularly. This device secures to a shoulder strap on your backpack. This places it high on your body for relatively unobstructed GPS signals. It is detached and reattached by a simple hook-and-loop patch. Super convenient.

Great for in reach mini
I bought this to use with my inreach mini and it has worked flawlessly. I have seen questions on weather it works with the mini and it totally does. I have used this backpacking with an Osprey atmos 65 as well as a REI Flash 63 and a camelbak day pack. It has worked well on all of them and I am super happy with it. Yes, the velcro sticks to the lanyard but to me that's not a deal breaker and as others have mentioned a piece of paracord is an easy fix. Well worth the money for both ease of use and protection for such an expensive little device.

With a minor modification this holder is excellent for keeping the Garmin InReach safely attached to a backpack
After losing a DeLorme InReach hiking in Yosemite I purchased a new Garmin InReach Explorer and am determined not to lose this thing. Before heading out on an kayaking trips this summer and an extended hiking trip fall I purchased this tether and, based on other reviews, modified the line attaching the holder to the clip that slides onto the Garmin InReach so that if the plastic clasp broke the line would still remain attached. I was a little concerned about the holding strength of the Velcro straps attaching it to my backpack. Happy to report that this little device worked extremely well far exceeding my expectations. Although it appeared to be built a little on the lite side it stayed fully attached to my backpack even when I reached up and just yanked the Garmin away from the holder to look at it. Perfectly and fully functional and best of all, I don’t worry about losing the Garmin.

Small area of Velcro to hold a heavier device (like the Garmin 86sci) and other problems
This device consists of a plastic clip that attaches to the Garmin device with a 2" by 1" area of Velcro (I'll call this the device clip). The second piece has a 2.5" by 1" piece of Velcro with rubberized backing that has two straps held together with Velcro strips (I'll call this the gear plate). Here are the pros and cons: Pros: The device clips onto the device firmly and seems very secure. The device can then be mounted using the two straps with Velcro closures to any gear or irregular secure surface that you want (backpack, belt, etc.). So it's pretty versatile. Cons: The Velcro on the straps is not very robust and is starting to wear after only one use. The straps go through some slits on the rubberized plate and I don't see how they could be easily replaced. Adjustable straps with a little more length and a buckle clip would be better. The cord that attaches to the Garmin device clip and then to the plate with the straps is not robust. The cord is soft and clings to the Velcro surfaces easily. It often gets in the way when you are trying to reattach the device. After only one use, the cord is already starting to fray. It is a nice safety featrure in case you drop the device, but better material and perhaps a coating would make it less irritating and it would last longer. Finally, the area of Velcro on the device clip and the strap/gear plate is not a very big area. It works, and obviously you don't want it to be much larger, but a little more surface area would make the Garmin device stay attached more securely. Overall, I thought the item was pricey for what you get. Perhaps Garmin will come up with an improved design.

So far so good with this. I found it quite easy to adjust the attachment Velcro type straps so that the assembly stays put on the rucksack strap without slipping down. When the unit is properly attached to the rucksack strap, it holds the GPS (In my case a GPSMAP 64s) very firmly, with no "flopping around". Thusfar, the Velcro attachment is proving very strong, but I am being careful to hold both sides of the tether when detaching the two Velcro halves, in order to view the GPS. (I suspect that over time, and with considerable use, the Velcro may prove to be the weak point of this accessory, so taking a little bit of extra care when splitting the two halves should at least, help with its longevity). As it's a genuine Garmin accessory, the GPS attachment clip is perfectly matched to the slots on the GPS itself - and also being a genuine Garmin accessory, I'd suggest it's somewhat over-priced for what it actually is !!! However, the overall verdict is that it does exactly what I want - which is to hold GPS securely, in a readily accessible position until needed.

Makes taking the gps hiking so much easier. Don't have to stuff around with unclipping a carabiner every time you want to check the map. Would highly recommend.
