We never travel without this carbon monoxide detector! Most places we stay don’t have one, so we always bring our own. On our Leopard 40 catamaran, we keep one in every cabin plus the salon and galley, and we also take one along when staying in Airbnb or Vrbo rentals. The one time we didn’t bring it was while hiking Acatenango in Guatemala. After a 7-hour climb to base camp, we were freezing and exhausted when our guide lit a fire. Smoke filled the tiny hut and we woke up with splitting headaches -classic carbon monoxide exposure. That scary moment taught us a lesson: no matter where we go, even up a mountain, this detector comes with us. The battery lasts a long time, the digital temperature display is a great bonus, and the alarm is loud enough to wake you immediately.
