I Love These Speakers!!
Easy to Bluetooth in stereo! Sound is better than expected. Solid mid-range. Bass is decent. And I’m a life-long bassist. Treble is good. But the two speakers sound great with stereo sound. Being placed on the ground reinforces bass frequencies. Exceeded my expectations! No not Bose sound, still the overall sound is impressive. Neighbors love it! FYI: set up one speaker as main speaker. Easy. Turn on second speaker by pushing big black button. Go back to first (main) speaker. Rapidly push small black button! Yes! Stereo! My speakers were obviously a return, probably because they couldn’t figure out how to set them up. With no instructions, I was up and running in 20 minutes. One Week Later: These speakers survived 3 days of extreme torrential downpour of intense Arizona monsoon rain! Was worried they didn’t make it! They still work great! Update on sound… These speakers are loud! Not deafening, but too loud for my front yard where it might be pushing the boundaries of my 10 neighbors on my block, including the ones across the street! Fidelity: The more I listen to the speakers, the more I love the sound quality! Even cranked up to the max, there is NO distortion. Very clean sound. Great midrange. Nice bass, no subwoofers, so no earthshaking lows, still good, acceptable bass. And listening critically, I can hear the hi-hat cymbals, and the ride, sizzle, and crash cymbals. Not quite as crispy as I would want in a perfect sound scenario, but still acceptable! But 99%+ of the average person out there is not an audiophile. My whole neighborhood is raving about these speakers!! And few have been on stage playing music for over 50 years… I love these speakers. Well worth the money! And if they can survive the Arizona heat at 115-119F even better. Design: After a week, I appreciate the design even more. Well-made. Sturdy. Monsoon rain-proof. Intense Heat-proof. Solar panels work great! Simple controls. Easy to set-up Bluetooth. Easy to set to stereo. Well worth the money!! P.S. After setting up the First Speaker (main) and turning on the Second Speaker, go back to the First Speaker and very quickly push the small black button twice! And now you have Stereo!! In conclusion, forget the expensive Boses! It’s party time. These speakers are awesome! Sound is great and it’s a good time for all!!! September 15, 2021: To Shawn: We both live in Arizona. My speakers have easily survived 115F heat. And all those heavy monsoon rains? No problem at all. Make sure those plastic plugs that cover the controls are fully inserted and completely flush with the rock. My speakers had no problems with all that endless monsoon rain. Never had any stereo syncing problems. To Everyone: To get stereo, push speaker one (main speaker) big black button to turn it on. You will hear a big beep sound. Now connected to Bluetooth. Go to speaker two. Push big black button to turn it on. Go back to speaker one and quickly push SMALL black button Twice! Now “quickly” means pushing that dang small black button TWICE IN LESS THAN A SECOND!! Hope this helps. Product is well-made. Works perfectly for me. And yes, NO instructions. Took me about 20 minutes pushing random buttons to figure it all out. No problem. I still LOVE my speakers!! September 23, 2021: Again these speakers can withstand intense heat, 115F; and heavy intense major monsoon rains for 3 weeks!! Can’t sync your speakers for stereo? Read my clear instructions in this post. Today’s problem: Today my 2nd speaker didn’t work. Wow! Totally bummed out! Even after all the proper button-pushing, still not working. Okay. Take it in the house to troubleshoot. It should be fully charged with the Arizona sun, but gotta be sure here. Plug it in with the supplied micro-USB cord. Solid red light which means fully charged. So I stare at that, thinking of my next move. After 2 minutes, I unplug the charging cord. Push the big black button to turn it on. It beeps!! And starts playing music! Now it works fine!! In Conclusion: still a great set of speakers. Solid sound. At max volume, no distortion, clean sound. Environmentally tough. At max volume, you may be too loud for your neighbors! Well-made. No complaints. Highly recommended!! (Pro musician on stage for over 50 years!) September 28, 2021 update: So my second speaker wasn’t working again. Went through my usual various troubleshooting methods! Could not get that 2nd speaker to work!! As a last resort, moved the speakers closer to each other than before. SUCCESS!! I have many Pagodas, Tikis, and Dragons in my front yard! But none of them block the speakers. The rock speakers are behind 2 large bushes about 15 feet apart. The speakers always worked fine. The rock speakers are hidden behind these bushes. From “inside edge to inside edge” between speakers was about 14 feet. To solve my problem of speaker #1 talking to speaker #2, I had to reduce that distance to 13 feet 6 inches! Yes only 6”!! Speakers sit on the ground. All distances are straight line-of-sight measurements. It is a little disappointing that the speakers don’t come close to manufacturer specs of “up to 25 feet apart!” Still great speakers. Very good sound. If you can live with 13.5 feet speaker separation, still 5 stars for me! October 11, 2021: Speakers not working again. Went through all my troubleshooting steps above. Red power lights are solid on! Good. But blue lights are off. Remember blue lights mean Bluetooth!! So bring rock #1 into house. Plug in micro USB charging cord. Blue light becomes solid in 3 minutes. Wait 10 minutes. Bluetooth seems to be fully charged. Repeat on speaker #2. All is good! Yes, a lot of fussing around to keep these speakers working! But definitely worth it. My big problem is not cranking up these speakers too loud!! I still love these speakers!!! October 12, 2021: Speakers not working again. But I can figure out anything!! Gotta bring speaker #1 into the house. Solid red light. Okay. Ready to go. Blue light out! Blue is for Bluetooth!! So I keep this rock plugged in with the supplied micro-USB charging cord. Solid Red Power light turns to Solid Green! Best power scenario. More importantly Solid Blue light turns to flashing blue light!! Never saw that on this rock!! Flashing blue light on any device means “I want to be connected to Bluetooth now!” Wow! So I use my rocks in the front yard maybe 2-4 times a week. Conclusion: I’m bringing in my rocks 1-2 times a week to fully charge them and see those solid green power lights and flashing blue Bluetooth lights!! These rock speakers are still amazing!! Great sound. Loud. No distortion. Clean sound at max volume!! Extremely tough weather-wise! October 18, 2021: These rock speakers still rock! Read the above review in its entirety. The only weakness in these speakers is they MUST be fully charged to work great! My front yard looks like a mini-Disneyland. I need these speakers to provide background music. So I only play music maybe 2-3 times a week. Still having occasional power/Bluetooth power problems!! Both need to be fully charged up to give optimal results. So now, I need to fully charge each rock. SO… each rock is individually brought inside. Charge first speaker with supplied micro-USB cord. Forget solid red power light. You want solid green power light!! Oh yeah. Forget solid blue light. Remember blue lights.. Blue lights are Bluetooth lights. You want flashing blue lights! Always the sign that a device wants to be hooked up to Bluetooth!! November 22, 2021 Update: So solid Green Power light is optimal. Fully charged. Correction on Bluetooth: Bluetooth light should be a Solid Blue when fully charged. If you turn on Bluetooth on your phone (or other device), then select the Alpine speakers; and only then the rock Bluetooth speakers start flashing blue lights. I usually test my main rock speaker (speaker #1) at this time. Might as well be sure it works before you place them back in the yard, pool, etc. Repeat charging process with speaker #2. Follow my posts about how to sync the speakers together, and how to charge these speakers! The techniques above ALWAYS works! December 3, 2021: Figured out if speakers are fully charged you can go 15+’ in separation. For optimal operation you have to charge each speaker inside for 3+ hours or so. I need to charge them every 1-2 weeks to make them work at full potential! You want that Solid Green Power Light on! After that, you may get a Solid Blue Bluetooth light, or maybe not. Push the big black button in twice. You should see a blue light, either solid or flashing. Any blue light is good!! If no blue lights, keep charging! lol Conclusion: Still great sound. Environmentally tough. 115F+ and endless monsoon downpours… no problem. Will update post later this winter when temperatures drop below freezing! January 14, 2022: Two days below freezing. Speakers still doing great. Granted, it was only 30F degrees, lol. It does get down to maybe 26F at best. Will update if temps get colder! Took both speakers inside. Hooked up to flat screen TV. Totally deafening at 10!! Great clean sound, no distortion!! Put them back in the front yard. At 9, sounds great!! Still way too loud for neighbors. Now at 8. It’s the middle of the day. Seems my neighbors like classic rock. Still going to turn it down to 7. Conclusion: Great sounding speakers. Weather tough. I love ❤️ these speakers. No regrets. Extremely highly recommended!!! June 6, 2022: Bought another set of speakers. Today, impossible to set up in stereo. I know all the tricks about these speakers. New stereo syncing process has now been implemented with generation 2. Forget all those last year instructions. Make sure speakers are fully charged. Solid Green and Blue Lights. Turn on both speakers using big black buttons. Now push both small black buttons on both speakers, twice quickly. That means 2 times in a second. This should work. I will experiment with variations on this process.

We did the research for you tested four speaker brands
We ordered the Alpine "Rock" speakers and struggled with them at first. Turns out, like most of these solar speakers, they are BlueTooth4.0 or higher-only. Once we shifted to a BT4.0 device to connect, they are flawless. The speakers are heavy, FAR heavier than other brands we tested. They have a nominal bass response, about as good as they can be with a 4" speaker. Tweaking the bottom end with the Alexa app worked very well. They are sealed. The other two brands we tried are also sealed, but sealed beneath the solar panel, and one of the brands we tested leaked water under the seal. We also tested for volume; from the same input, the Alpine are ~6-8dB louder. No, they don't go to 11, but they're small, inobtrusive, look great in our rock garden next to our pool. Bluetooth 4.0; if you have an older Alexa device, Google Hub, or Siri, these speakers will NOT connect to them, as they are legacy BT. However, all recent cell phones, tablets, and the round Alexa (Gen 4) Dots are compatible. Listening to these against four other brands (three pictured here), they are far superior, which supports the slightly higher price. In my somewhat educcated and arrogant opinion, and as a Grammy recipient who is an audiophile, these are the best value for the dollar and ear without going to wired, externally powered systems. We love that they charge in the sun, and play for 6-7 hours in the dark. We enjoy our pool in the nighttime with the lights and sound set via Alexa to create an ambiance and mood round our pool deck, walkways in our back yard area, and through our entire promenade next to the house. With Alexa programmed properly, these create a subtle, immersive experience in a suburban yard surrounded by trees. Lastly, Angela in Alpine technical support is very patient, kind, and willing to go to extra lengths to ensure customer happiness. Although Alpine was unaware their speakers require BT 4.0, she worked with us through the process until we found a cure for why the speakers would not connect to our Alexa or Google systems. Other speakers, excepting for the singular Alpine mono speaker, had this same issue. I suspect they all use a similar BT receiver, given that five different brands had BT issues. Thank you Angela, for hanging in there with us, even after hours. You won't regret purchasing these speakers. IMAGES: #1- Three different speakers, each switching via same source device for listening test. #2- Span of speakers, working fine with BT, even though the spread is farther than the manufacturer recommends. #3- Other brands may be larger, yet the plastic housing is less thick, causing them to have little bass response and "muddy" compared to the Alpine speakers. #4- Note the silicone sealant applied to the Alpine speakers, while none is seen on one of the competitor speakers. The Alpine Rock speaker is externally sealed, heavier, and overall more sturdy and stout. #5- My EQ settings for these speakers near my pool (a lot of high frequency bounce on the water) #6- Easy connection to an Alexa device with BT4.0

Disappointing Durability and Sound Quality for Outdoor Use
I purchased a pair of the Alpine Corporation Waterproof Bluetooth Solar-Powered Outdoor Wireless Rock Speakers on 6/11/23, and unfortunately, within just 12 months, one of the speakers has already failed due to exposure to the elements. Living near Austin, TX, which isn't particularly wet, I was surprised to find that the 6" speaker had been water damaged. Upon disassembling it (I'm an electronic engineer), I found that the retaining nuts for the speaker had rusted, indicating poor resistance to moisture. The sound quality is subpar, and they seem underpowered. Despite the product notes claiming a maximum of 6 Watts, I suspect the speakers each have only a 3-Watt amplifier chip, given the misleading specs in the comparison table managed by Amazon (describing it as a 12" speaker). The one positive aspect was the Bluetooth setup, range, and performance, which are typical of Bluetooth speakers. For this, I would give it 3 stars. However, the overall experience with the product's durability and sound quality leads me to rate it 1 star. I expected more from a product at this price point and marketed as waterproof and suitable for outdoor use.

The good, the bad and the replacement!
We purchased these in November 2024. I leave them outside for most weather but do move them inside if it’s going to be extreme. In July one speaker died. I reached out to customer service and was helped immensely by Eve. Eve in turn helped us through getting a replacement, which was two new speakers. We find the sound to be great. The connectivity and range are also good. Their solar capability is satisfactory, however, after a few cloudy days and you should charge them electronically just to keep their charge. Price to value is a little high but having them in backyard for music and the TV is well worth it.

Very good solar Bluetooth out door speakers easy to use, durable and weather resistant, looks good in my back garden. So far no dirt or bird poop. Pairs easily with my devices. Obviously cheaper and easier to use than hard wired out door speakers. Very good sound quality as good as my expensive indoor hi end hi fi. Downsides, not loud enough definitely needs to be louder, also couldn’t download alpine app, but they work ok. Good value, good quality for rock speakers. Also looks they look good.
