Nice Precision Sous-Vide cooker, NO phone or network needed!
The Greater Goods Precision Sous-Vide immersion cooker is a nice addition to my kitchen. I've only given it a few runs so far (a 28 hour beef roast and a 4 hour set of pork chops), but it performed admirably both times. The device is high-powered (1,100 watts), so it brings your cooking bath up to temperature quite rapidly and can maintain the desired temperature easily. The controls are very simple (a single knob/button), and as a huge positive, it does NOT require a smartphone, WiFi network, or Bluetooth to be used effectively. While some other brands can be operated without a network, it is sometimes painful to configure cooking time, etc. without using another device (looking at you, Anova), and being able to set temperature and cook time easily from the front panel was a real joy. The device pretty much guides you through setting the temperature and cooking time, and with a final press of the control button, it starts cooking. The status display has a color indicator to show if it's bringing your vessel up to temperature, when it's cooking, and when your specified cooking time has completed. Since there is a calibration adjustment option available, I decided to check the cooking temperature against a high-quality and recently calibrated ThermoWorks instant read thermometer, and found the cooker was right on (within 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit) straight from the box. If I have to have something to quibble over, it's that once your desired cooking time is reached, the device sounds a periodic alarm to let you know it's done. Since I'm most often cooking things sous-vide that aren't going to be harmed by a little additional cooking (unlike oven baking/roasting, sous-vide cooked food isn't going "burn" if left in too long), I would have liked a way to silence or acknowledge the alarm, while letting it continue to cook (which in fact it does do, complete with a "count-up" timer showing the amount of time past your desired cooking time - so no worries about your cooked food unsafely cooling off if you're not around.) I found the easiest solution to get rid of the "done cooking" alarm was to just hit stop, add some additional cook time to the timer, then restart cooking. Certainly not a deal breaker, but it did make me have to deal with the device a little sooner than I would have if the alarm didn't keep beeping every minute or so. All in all, the Greater Goods Precision Sous-Vide cooker is a very nice product, seems to work well, is simple to operate, has enough power to bring your cooking bath up to temp and keep it there, and doesn't require other devices just to make it work. I like it! -Andrew Note: this is a true and honest review of the product after my real world testing. I was given this product by the manufacturer to review.

Worked for 10 months, but worked well: UPDATED 12.04.25
Ten months of weekly use and it just stopped working. It did work well until then. Temperature was always spot on. Had one small issue with the timer; it added 2 minutes to every hour, which is a problem when you’re fermenting dairy for 36 hours. But I can read a clock ⏰. I loved the simplicity of it: unplug to turn off, press to set temp and time. I’m moving on to a yogurt maker. UPDATE: adding a star. I de-calcified the unit and did test runs at various temps and times and it works now. I’ll keep it as a backup and use filtered water only.

So Easy To Use!
Right out of the box it felt like quality. I've seen some of the other reviews saying theirs stopped working after a couple or few uses. I hope not and don't think it will be the case with me. Brand new to this style of cooking and never used one before. Being a man, of course I didn't read any directions. Didn't have to. Plugged it in, turned and pressed the dial until I was able to set my temp and time. The hardest part was figuring out how to turn it off. After a couple minutes of not locating a power button or switch it dawned on me. Just unplug it. My first ever cook was 2 - 1lb. ribeye steaks. Pretty sure I was about to ruin $40 worth of meat at this point. A cooking show I saw said to cook them @130 deg. for 1.5 hrs. for med/rare. My family leans more toward medium so I did 140 deg. for 1.5 hrs. and finished them up on the grill for 1 minute each side. Came out a hair overdone, but not the unit's fault. It's a learning curve. The meat was some of the tenderest steak I've ever had. Wonderful flavor and no weird taste. I can't wait to do em again and fix my mistakes. May try chicken next though since that's so tough to get cooked through thoroughly. Last but not least. I almost bought the #1 rated one on Amazon. 80% 5***** reviews and 20% 4 star. Nothing lower. Even had it in my cart. Thankfully I read at the last second that is doesn't have a built in circulator. You have to have a circulator with these to keep the water moving constantly. SOOO glad I caught that and bought this one. Buy one, you won't be disappointed with anything!

Great heater with simple controls and tips in instructions.
I’ve used this twice. I’ve been considering buying a real sous vide heater for years. I’ve been using an Instant Pot for sous vide for years. I’ve been a fool. This heats quickly and the noise of the circulating water is not an issue. I’m pleased with the dial, it works well and as described in the instructions. The 850 watts is more than enough to keep an insulated stock pot (18 quarts) at a consistent temperature. The bracket could be a little more sturdy, but it can be righted enough to hold the unit stably.
