MightyOhm SBM-20 Geiger-Muller Tube

Detects Muons just fine. It's a lot of fun to play with, and I highly recommend it.

Product arrived in protective tube that works well. I opened my GMC and cut the 2 zip-ties. I then removed the glass Chinese Geiger tube that comes with it. A J something tube. I then had to pull the two Geiger tube retainer clips off with pliers and a soldering iron gently. Move both to their farthest apart positions. Press the clips into the holes gently while heating the rear of the board gently. Flux brushed onto the new holes may help adhesion prior to resoldering the retainers into their new farther apart positions. Make sure tube is installed the correct polarity. Both tube and board are marked so there’s no confusion. Close that back up and enjoy your increased sensitivity.

I got 2 of these with two of the geiger boards. Plugged these in. Ran the output wire from each unit to a little $7 microchip that was a logic chip. It was a "AND" chip. Only if both tubes send a signal at the same time does the "AND" chip turn on. Stack the tubes, separated by sheets of lead. Only a cosmic-ray induced MUON can penetrate two sheets of lead and two geiger tubes a the "same" time. See my other reviews for a more thorough explanation.

Came well packaged. Dropped it like a dolt when I first got it but because of the packaging it was fine. Read about this tubes sensitivity because you may not get great results with this one in particular if you are looking to measure less energetic radiation.

I bought this to upgrade the existing M4011 tube in my GMC 320+ Counter. It works great. I only had the enter new calibration numbers after a Y-tube video search. This tube seams quicker then the oem tube. Doesn’t sound crazy to own one of these nowadays, does it?

Very sensitive to Beta and Gamma plus X rays. Typical Soviet built for War and the un educated Conscripts.
