Animal Adventures: Starter Set - Beginners Roleplaying Tabletop Game 5E Compatible

FANTASTIC game for anyone starting out in rpg games or if you want to introduce your kids into rpg games! My daughters age 5 and 7 love playing it. They need a little a guidance with the rules but luckily Kai the cleric(Dad's character) can give the guidance cantrip to help them out! I would highly recommend this game! The minitures are fantastic quality, great for the first time playing a rpg!

This is a great, alternative way into dungeons and dragons. It's a complete starter set, enough to play an enjoyable short adventure without having to spend your entire months wages on a library of books. I used to play a lot of D&D in my younger days, so when my 8yr old expressed an interest one time i instantly started looking to see if there was anything suitable. I found this starter set and instantly thought "yes!" I mean, whats not to like, adventuring animals it's a great soft introduction. Animal adventures, bought! Looking through the contents, i was pleased to find a very detailed set of hero miniatures in grey plastic, once painted they will look the dogs doodahs. There was a handy GM screen made from stiff card with great artwork and some handy info on the monsters that are in the adventure. Next was a set of plastic dice (d20, d12, 2xd10, d8, d6 & d4) in navy blue with white colours, which contrasts well and there is a cute paw print to represent the highest score on the dice. There are maps with high quality detailed graphics and grids for all the major encounters of the included adventures. The monsters are printed on thick card along with various other markers, it would have been nice to have some plastic miniatures for the monsters but its no big deal. The set also had pre generated character sheets for the heros with all the vital stats, they are printed on glossy paper and are liable to get creased or torn if you are not careful, fear not though you can download the sheets for free on steamforged games. Then there was the rule book, this was small enough for first time D&D'ers to not feel overwhelmed the rules are kept to a bare minimum and are somewhat easy to follow. So what's it like to play? Quick and lots of fun! Characters are pre-generated so no time spent trying to create the ultimate hero, the rules are highly simplified compared to the full fat version of the D&D rule book so again they are quick to digest and understand. The included adventure kicks off with some instant action to draw you in then gives plenty of convenient opportunities to roleplay before diving back into the thick of it again. My thoughts? Its a great introduction to tabletop roleplaying, it feels almost friendly even if you are slaying goblins and zombie rats. The adventure is enjoyable with plenty of scope to expand or go off on a tangent, at the end of it you are left wanting more. You can easily make a new adventure and play the characters as is or you can invest into the system and buy the rule books to get a more richer play experience. The only things i didn't like and this is the game play only, was firstly some of the spells are marked as infinite. In the D&D core rules you have a number of spells of various levels you can cast but once cast ou have to rest to be able to use them again. In this box set if you cast spells as many times as you like then the game becomes unbalanced and the wizard/sorcerer can just blast everything. The other thing i didn't like is that when heros reach 0 hit points after the battle is over they are supposed to be able to get back up and resume play as normal, this reduces the sense of danger for the character so can lead to reckless player behaviour with their heros. To conclude, i highly recommend this set for anyone wanting to dip their toe into D&D, its a great way of getting kids involved by using animal characters rather than some of the more obscure races in the full version. The quality of the contents is fantastic and very fun to play. If you are a seasoned D&D player, the rules can feel a bit too watered down and it might be better to go and get the secrets of gullet cove book instead.

A Very good starter set got it for my 9yr stepdaughter for an early Easter gift and she loved it and now wants to set up her own campaign

Tengo 2 hijos de 6 años y un niño de 10, y con este juego le entendieron rapido a las mecanicas, y es un escenario perfecto para superar la frustracion porque si pierden aun lloran pero se emocionan.

I can tell care and craftsmanship went into each figurine, the supporting material, and even playful character descriptions. A perfect and simple introduction to cooperative TTRPG.

Very good game. Well written. My kids loved it and learnt it very quick (both under 10). Everyone quickly became obsessed with the detailed characters. Really looking forward to expanding or set.
