I regret that my two year experience with this drive using Mac machines is not positive. I have not found it to be reliable. To recover files on the drive now...again...I must fire up an antique Chromebook, which sees my files so I can back them up elsewhere. It worries me and I'm not messing with this drive further. -- Same issues on newer UnionSine drive. Drives mount one time but not the next...Disk Utility hangs trying to find it...workaround is to mount the drive on my ancient Chromebook...which sees the drives and files fine...then retry on Mac...usually this works but it is really weird...I see now it has to do with how I formatted these drives as exFAT as advised...both my Macs randomly spit it out and say yuck...nerve wracking as these are important back up drives...honestly WTH why are we still having drive compatibility crap like this? So apologies LaCie it does not seem to be your fault...

This compact powerhouse, and it’s completely transformed how I manage my files. Dragging and dropping projects is now a breeze no more hunting through scattered folders or drives. This 4 TB hard drive works perfectly well for me. I've got 4 Lacie Rugged drives now. Two 1tb, one 2 tb and this one and they all work perfectly. I've had the other three for several years.

I'm on the go. I have a MacBook Pro and do audio with it. So I need a huge amount of storage. The rugged nature of this dive is what really sold me. The size is great! 4TB give me plenty of room for large file storage. ONE PROBLEM: I almost returned this drive the day after I got it. I started transferring my smaller external HD's over to this new drive and it crashed. The transfer froze less than 1/4 of the way through the data. Now mind you, I'm on a Mac and I didn't reformat the drive--thinking I may use it on a windows machine also. I could not cancel my frozen file transfer and thus had to restart my computer. That caused the drive not to mount--so now my computer is not recognizing the drive. I ran Disk Doctor and Tech Tool Pro. They spotted the drive, did some of their magic and it mounted on my desktop again. So I reformatted in Mac OS native Journaled format. Not a single problem since then. BOTTOM LINE: A good value. But for heaven sake, don't delete whatever you copy to this drive before you know its going to be stable. And if you have a MAC, you will do yourself a favor by reformatting the drive.

This nice little drive is big in storage. I use it for Time Machine backups as the drive is seamlessly Mac compatible, and I'm very happy. Couldn't be easier to set up on Mac. Data transfer over USB3 is fast for my purposes — and that's how the drive is powered! Gone are the days when you needed an external power source — one usb3 cable serves for power source and data transfer. I understand that spinning hard drives (HDD) like this drive are better for data integrity than Solid State Drives (SSD): since my mac's drive is solid state, it makes sense to back up onto a spinning HDD — and it's much more affordable than a comparable SSD. I travel a lot, and I've been burned in the past by HDD failures due to drops, bumps, etc., but LaCie boasts protection against shock, drops up of to 4 feet, and dust and water resistance. We shall see... I'll update this review if I have any trouble.

We got a 4TB LaCie Rugged Mini to backup design project files, and before handing it over to be used, I ran it through the paces of speed tests in the various disk formats both for Windows computers and Macs. I found that the cross-platform compatible format LaCie uses for their drives out of the box, ExFAT, was consistently faster on Windows and Mac OS, averaging at least as fast as the 130 MB/s speed promised by LaCie. The rubber cushion exterior case is great for protecting the drive on the go, but know that dropping a platter-based hard drive like this one, even a small distance, while it is powered up and spinning, will probably destroy it. Once powered down, then it's more protected from damage by drops than most other portable USB drives out there. As with other reviews, my only complaint is that no USB type A adapter is included for the USB-C cable, though most of our more recently purchased computers include at least one USB-C port. Due to this one downside, I'd rate this drive a 9 out of 10.

This may be premature but this is the nicest hard drive that I have ever owned. I was going to purchase a less expensive drive that would give me more storage (like the 12 tb) but I am glad that I didn't. First of all, I read some of the reviews that spoke negatively on the cord that comes with it. I was fortunate enough to have a slot on my laptop for it. I LOVE the cord. Not only does it free up an extra usb port but most importantly it may be one of reasons I was able to transfer 260gbs in an hour. I'm not always up on the latest so to me, that's lightning. Did I forget to mention that while it was transferring those 260gb, I didn't hear a sound. With those qualities you would think that this drive needs to be plugged into a wall.....Nope. Lastly, I actually like the orange casing. This hard drive is handling heavy workloads with ease. The orange vest seems appropriate. 5 stars all the way. Stop searching. Buy this drive or one of his siblings. Peace and Blessings everyone.

Die Festplatte ist nun seit einem Jahr in täglicher Verwendung und kann voll und ganz überzeugen. Geliefert wurde die Festplatte mit einem USB A und einem USB C Verbindungskabel, somit schon mal ein Pluspunkt für mich gewesen. Bei dieser Größe haben wir unsere Festplatte auf NTFS formatiert und unter Mac OS mit entsprechenden Treibern unter Betrieb, immer problemlos und bei voller Geschwindigkeit. Steckt man die Festplatte das erste Mal am PC an, öffnet sich ein Einrichtungsprogramm. Dieses ermöglicht einem kinderleicht Partitionen in verschiedenen Dateisystemen und Größen zu erstellen. + Vorteile Sehr viel Speicher für unterwegs, perfekt für längere Urlaube und Fototrips um immer entsprechend rückzusichern. Kompakte Abmessungen und somit optimal in jeder Laptoptasche und jedem Rucksack unterzubringen. Durch die Hülle, geschützt vor Staub, Erschütterungen, Stößen und Spritzwasser. Außerdem liegt sie somit rutschfest auf allen Unterlagen. Geschwindigkeit: Je nach Datei, im Schreiben ca. 100MB/s und im Lesebetrieb um die 116MB/s Preis: Immer wieder in Blitzangeboten zu recht guten Preisen erhältlich. - Nachteile Langsamere Geschwindigkeit als SSDs. Fazit: In der Größe um den Preis top! Als SSD wäre sie natürlich noch praktischer, aber in dieser Größe noch kein Thema.

I bought this external hard drive few months ago (3 months to be exact) and suddenly all my data is lost , it just broke/crashed itself. I have used it with all the necessary cares so there was no reason for it to break and this is clearly a technical problem with the hard drive. Now I am going to see how it works with the warranty, I hope this doesn't become a nightmare.
