Great Drive. Reliable and durable.

5TB like it was advertised (I’ve gotten ripped off before) It’s small enough to carry in a bag. I’ve downloaded a few things on it and it’s working great. It does come with a charger. I read a few reviews that said it didn’t so I ordered an extra. The charger is a C so unless you’re plugging into a phone or tablet you’ll want to order a USB one. I’d buy again.

This nice little drive is big in storage. I use it for Time Machine backups as the drive is seamlessly Mac compatible, and I'm very happy. Couldn't be easier to set up on Mac. Data transfer over USB3 is fast for my purposes — and that's how the drive is powered! Gone are the days when you needed an external power source — one usb3 cable serves for power source and data transfer. I understand that spinning hard drives (HDD) like this drive are better for data integrity than Solid State Drives (SSD): since my mac's drive is solid state, it makes sense to back up onto a spinning HDD — and it's much more affordable than a comparable SSD. I travel a lot, and I've been burned in the past by HDD failures due to drops, bumps, etc., but LaCie boasts protection against shock, drops up of to 4 feet, and dust and water resistance. We shall see... I'll update this review if I have any trouble.

I regret that my two year experience with this drive using Mac machines is not positive. I have not found it to be reliable. To recover files on the drive now...again...I must fire up an antique Chromebook, which sees my files so I can back them up elsewhere. It worries me and I'm not messing with this drive further. -- Same issues on newer UnionSine drive. Drives mount one time but not the next...Disk Utility hangs trying to find it...workaround is to mount the drive on my ancient Chromebook...which sees the drives and files fine...then retry on Mac...usually this works but it is really weird...I see now it has to do with how I formatted these drives as exFAT as advised...both my Macs randomly spit it out and say yuck...nerve wracking as these are important back up drives...honestly WTH why are we still having drive compatibility crap like this? So apologies LaCie it does not seem to be your fault...

Good product. It stores my digital data and is rugged. The cable is different from the first time I purchased this product (usbc v. usb) but this issue is not too great for me because I purchased this product a time earlier when it wasn't this way, so I use the old one. I can see it being inconvenient for new customers. Despite this, I recommend this product.

This hard drive works amazing for storing all the photos and videos from your phone or computer. It is easy to setup and store. The speed to load and transfer files is quick. Worth the money for all it can hold. It doesn't overheat if using it for some time.

GREAT DANE PROOF! these hard drives may be the toughest hard drives around. if you have kids or dogs like me I highly recommend them. I came home one day to my Great Dane puppy throwing one of these up in the air in my back yard and and trying to catch it. he had pulled the cord out and chewed entirely around the sides of it. all while doing this in the dirt pit in the middle of my yard.( my fault I left the hard drive on a table next to my couch.) well fast forward to a year and a half later and I still am able to use this hard drive as normal. I recommend them all day. transfer speeds are good. rubber case is durable. and no issues with compatibility for my Mac.

This 4 TB hard drive works perfectly well for me. I've got 4 Lacie Rugged drives now. Two 1tb, one 2 tb and this one and they all work perfectly. I've had the other three for several years.

Die Festplatte ist nun seit einem Jahr in täglicher Verwendung und kann voll und ganz überzeugen. Geliefert wurde die Festplatte mit einem USB A und einem USB C Verbindungskabel, somit schon mal ein Pluspunkt für mich gewesen. Bei dieser Größe haben wir unsere Festplatte auf NTFS formatiert und unter Mac OS mit entsprechenden Treibern unter Betrieb, immer problemlos und bei voller Geschwindigkeit. Steckt man die Festplatte das erste Mal am PC an, öffnet sich ein Einrichtungsprogramm. Dieses ermöglicht einem kinderleicht Partitionen in verschiedenen Dateisystemen und Größen zu erstellen. + Vorteile Sehr viel Speicher für unterwegs, perfekt für längere Urlaube und Fototrips um immer entsprechend rückzusichern. Kompakte Abmessungen und somit optimal in jeder Laptoptasche und jedem Rucksack unterzubringen. Durch die Hülle, geschützt vor Staub, Erschütterungen, Stößen und Spritzwasser. Außerdem liegt sie somit rutschfest auf allen Unterlagen. Geschwindigkeit: Je nach Datei, im Schreiben ca. 100MB/s und im Lesebetrieb um die 116MB/s Preis: Immer wieder in Blitzangeboten zu recht guten Preisen erhältlich. - Nachteile Langsamere Geschwindigkeit als SSDs. Fazit: In der Größe um den Preis top! Als SSD wäre sie natürlich noch praktischer, aber in dieser Größe noch kein Thema.

Easy to use and very good quality 🫡👌🏻

I got this in desperation, after my iMac decided it did not like WD for backing up. It still did not work with this LaCie. Frustrated, because this was a new drive and expensive, I narrowed down the issue to my RAM upgrade. As soon as I removed the faulty memory and replaced it with the original Mac memory, bam it did my backup in 20 minutes. It was an expensive purchase $160 for only 2TB, but this will be my trusty reliable backup drive for my iMac to come. I don't want to go through what I did again. Starting from scratch 3x. Without a backup because the Mac corrupted my other two WD drives with the backups. If you are on the fence, trust me when I say that in the end, it's not worth losing data and time to start over. The build is amazing. It's solid, small and has a led indicator light. Comes with two cables and Adobe Creative suite free trial. It's supposed to be rain proof, drop proof and can handle 1 ton runover by a truck. SHIPPING: Arrived sooner than expected with Prime in a bubble envelope no signature. No padded packaging by Amazon. Lucky I was home and saw it stuffed in my mailbox. If someone stole it, it would have been a nightmare. If it was not the Rugged LaCie, I would have returned it and asked for padded secure shipping. CON: the USB plug into the drive wobbles and does not fully insert. This is a problem if you travel or use this drive on the go. At home you can carefully leave it undisturbed, but why make something so solid to make a delicate USB connection? And this is the latest new drive from LaCie. They might have done this to make room for silicone, but it is better to have a secure connection. I tried removing the silicone protection and inserting the USB that way but it still does not fully click in and insert. There is a gap. Just be very careful about this. The quality otherwise feels amazing with it's thick aluminium casing. I still recommend it for MAC.
