A book full of wisdom and experience
As a Thoroughbred owner, I've enjoyed every page of the book. My research or learning journey doesn't end here, but I am very grateful to Preston for his knowledge and advise. 100% Reccomended!

A Classic that all lovers of Thoroughbred Racing can learn a lot from.
Preston B. was the son of a thoroughbred trainer and the father of J. Elliott Burch of Sword Dancer, Quadrangle, Fort Marcy, Arts & Letters, etc, fame. For many decades this was considered the best place for laymen & future professionals to start learning something about the difficult job of getting these fragile athletes ready to perform. Thing have changed a lot since then, and especially these athletes have become even more fragile and race less frequently. Very few contemporary thoroughbreds are able to race with anything like the frequency that they did in the days of Preston Burch, but those aspects of his writing are easy to make mental adjustments about by anyone who even the most superficial knowledge of what goes on today. This tiny book is still a classic and it should remain a classic as long as thoroughbreds and riders meet and try to cross the finish line first.

Preston Burch
Books about horses never get the best riews.Books like this one is a prime example. For myself it's a terrific guide. From feeding, days in training up to a race to nominated for Stakes etc. The Hall of Fame Trainer Preston M Burch should have won a writing award for this book..

Sound reasoning still rules
Mr Burch's thoughtful work is full of the common sense that is helpful in training race horses. Integrity and practical theory will usually prevail. Provides solid footing for horsemen in any stage of development. Thank you,sir.....
