Q: Does the shield work with a clone arduino such as ieik ?

Yes, it works with arduino UNO clones and compatibles like the ieik.

Q: Will this work with the arduino mega? do I need a 12 vdc power supply for a motor?

Hi MikeM, Yes, this motor shield is compatible with Arduino Mega. These two modules will not generate 12VDC, so you'll need to supply it externally for the motors.

Q: Can I plug in sensors into the pins on top and run them at the same time as the motors?

The pins on top are connected to different signals. IN2 = Analog 2, In3 = Analog 3, Out6 = Digital 6, Out5 = Digital 5, TWI in and TWI out are connected to the i2c bus (SCL, SDA, 5V and GND). TWI is a bus, so multiple devices can share the same pins. All these pins can be used while you drive the motors.

Q: How does this compare with the adafruit v2.3 motor shield?

Sorry but my experiences are limited to the Arduino line of producers.

Compatible with DCC-EX

Built my DCC-EX system, using this Arduino Motor Shield.Uploaded the software and everything worked perfectly.No problems, at all.I'd previously bought cheaper boards, which turned out to be incompatible (false economy).Wish I'd bought this one, to start with. Would've saved money and hassle.If friends are building a similar system, I'd direct them to this item.

This deceptively simple looking cicuit board opens up an unbelieveable world of experimentation, tinkering and self development. You can just play, learn a great deal and create usefull, fun or artistic projects.
