Owl Moon

This is my favorite children's book. It is also one of my favorite books for anyone for all time. We're a family through adoption, which can involve long waits, mysterious circumstances, & moments of sadness & longing--as well as wonderful surprises & amazing turns of events. It requires steady waiting & a willingness to see & expect--in other words it requires Hope. It needs bravery from all parties to be successful. I have handed this book to many waiting couples: It is such a beautiful illustration of Hope. I still have a hard time reading it out loud without getting teary; I'm so grateful for my children, who are now amazing, wonderful adults--one with their one children & the other getting close to marriage & hopefully their own children, too. Of course, this book is at the top of the list when that time comes around.

Beautiful story and pictures! Very special!

A beautiful, quietly poetic tale of a little girl who goes out in the moonlight one night with her father to try to spot an owl. The "reveal" illustration when they finally see one of the majestic birds is so beautifully drawn that I've actually had children and adults gasp when I turn the page. Buy this -- you won't regret it.

Got this for my 5 year old Granddaughter. It is a beautiful story with beautiful pictures.

Owl Moon is a timeless, beautiful book. I read it as a child in the late 80's and purchased it to pass along the story to my 7 year old boys. It takes you along as a father leads his child for a walk in the woods to hopefully find a great horned owl. I love books for kids that involve being out in nature, but are still captivating for this tech overloaded generation. I also like this book as it shows a positive and heartwarming, yet simple experience that the father and child get to share. I highly recommend this book and only wish I had remembered to get this book for my children when they were younger!

My dad took me "Owling" when I was about 11 yrs. It was so similar to this book. A wonderful, snowy story/ recounting!

Beautiful illustrations and sweet bedtime story but not one of my grandkids’ favorites.

This is by far the most amazing children's book I've ever seen. Our daughter LOVES it and asks us to read it to her constantly. Such a beautiful story and drawings. She was just under 2.5 when we started reading it to her and it was PERFECT for her even then (despite it being really quite advanced language).

I used this book to help the children to quiet down, because the child in the book explains how special it is to go into woods but you have to be quiet (even when you're a bit cold).

Wonderful story, good quality book

小学6年に語りとして使うに際し、邦訳の工藤直子さん訳は素晴らしいけど、自分の語り口に合わないことばや順序があったので、原書を取り寄せた。私の拙い英語力では、工藤さんには及ばないけど、英語で本当のニュアンスがわかり、語るのに勉強になった。語りだったので、絵本を見せず、子どもには、目をつむって語り手のことばだけで想像して、と言って終始。ヨーレンの、父と娘、ワシミミズクとの遭遇の瞬間に至るまでを、子どもたちは娘と一緒に体験したと思えた。今回は使わなかったが、絵作者もヨーレンの詩を素晴らしく助けている。実際に登場したのは、娘と父だけだけど、その後ろに家族があり、とても幸せなシチュエーションも自然も子どもの心に残ったら嬉しい本。
