I've found it's helpful not only in the endgame itself, but as De La Villa points out himself, in positions where you can simplify or use you position to transfer to a winning endgame position. There are many diagrams, examples, and lucid explanations. I'm just an amateur player, but I've gotten a lot from this book (purchased almost three months ago). I would recommend this to any chess player, amateur up to GM. Review: This book is a goldmine of the best endgames to study! - I think this book deserves every bit of the five stars given in the rating because there are many gold nuggets of chess genius shared on these pages! I've purchased and studied quite a few chess books and this is one of the top five of all the books I've read! It's really incredible, and since it's been around since 2008 there are a lot of people who agree with me! Thank you!

For advanced players
This book is more appropriate for highly advanced players than for intermediate players. It is highly complex. If you are an advanced player, and want to understand endings, this might help you. It was a bit too advanced for my level of chess.

An Endgame Book You Will READ
Perhaps the best feature of this book is that among all your many endgame books this is the one you are most likely to READ cover to cover. The only other endgame book in that category is the charming Essential Chess Endings: The Tournament Player's Guide by James Howell. I would first memorize de la Villa and then read Howell. Afterwards, if you wish, you can go back to playing with p.3 of your other endgame texts.

Excellent Book
The end games are very instructive. Lots of good advice and ideas. Villa does a admirable job of presenting the positions in a very understandable way.

Se ha convertido en un clásico. Junto con los de Dvoretsky, son obligados.

I have a 2200+ peak rating OTB, and rank top 10% on lichess for 5 mins blitz and top 2% for 10 mins blitz. Still, this book taught me a lot and I wished I had picked it up years ago. Better late than never. It took me weeks to carefully get through it one first complete pass, and I am getting ready after a 4 months break to do it again. I believe mastering what is in this book is required for anyone looking to get seriously past 2000 rating. I also teach chess, so IMO while I like this book a lot, I think it's probably too serious for anyone who is 1500-1800 rating and casual about the hobby. You have to really want to improve, to get the juice out of this book.

The book is very well written and understandable also for beginners that at least know how to read chess annotation. It has indeed 100 games that can "happen" at some point and they are very nice to know. They also assist you understanding how some chess strategies or plans can work even if not in end game. Totally recommended.
