Great lens
This lens has made me a lot of money, highly recommend. But baby it. Very expensive to repair due to the uniqueness.

Fantastic correction and resolution
Did a lot of research before taking the plunge on this expensive lens and was a little skeptical of the hyperbole, especially since I don't use zoom lenses for commercial work. Then, when I took it out for the first weekend of shooting and immediately understood why people were gushing about its capabilities. I needed a better super-wide match to the Zeiss primes I've been shooting for decades, and this is it. The micro-contrast is great, CA is minimal to non-existent, lines are beautifully straight (requiring almost no correction in Lightroom) and the colors are brilliant. If there were an Otus 18 or 20mm lens, it would look like this. Portraiture at the longer focal lengths is fantastic in the central two-thirds, and only lightly distorted in the outer third (but still pleasing), and skin tones look very good. I can't speak to image stabilization or autofocus — I don't use either. The only drawback may be the price, but in this case, you're getting exactly what you'd expect you are paying for. Very, very impressed.

Uncorrectable distortion makes this a hard pick for many subjects
I can laud this lens for being brave enough to go out to 12mm, but billing it a g-master and not talking about the fisheye makes me seriously doubt sony's marketing. Edge-of-frame distortion, even after correction in lightroom, is borderline unusable, so you'll be taking center-frame crops (at which point, why even have an ultrawide?) or having to be VERY careful of your composition. Maybe if you can find solid color blocks or other nonpatterned stuff to line the sides of your photograph you can get usable results from this thing, but ultimately, and especially for the price, I can't recommend it.

Amazing lens
I bought it along with A7RIV as I'm primarily interested in landscape photography. The camera is a beast and the 12-24 mm GM 2.8 lens is another beast. I'm thoroughly amazed. You could go to any interesting areas and get stunning results. You can come home and can relive the whole hiking or adventure experience. Its impressive to print them in poster sizes. With this resolution, you can zoom into the pictures and be amazed at the level of details. With the level of resolution of A7RIV you can crop a lot and still get a good picture. The combination is a lot of money however. The front element of the lens needs to be carefully maintained as any defects will appear magnified

Dream lens for astrophotography with a Sony a7 III
Certainly the most expensive lens I've ever purchased, by far, but I've found it worth every penny as soon as I saw the results with astrophotography. It's so crisp and sharp edge to edge, no crazy coma or chromatic aberrations to deal with, even at the extreme 12mm which allows you to get so much of the Milky Way in frame per my photos. It's also built like a tank. I dropped it hard once and the built in metal lens hood took a hit hard enough to dent it but the lens still performs flawlessly.

It’s not worth $3,000.00 as they hype this lens
The lens is not sharp as I have been seen it supposed to be (for this range price it should be) I have been trying it over and over thinking that it might be the camera that I had at that time that was the A7R3 I had to correct things on post. I bought a A1 camera last year and used it and it’s the same quality shot doesn’t matter if you are shooting at f2.8 or f4 it’s still not good. I get way better quality image and color from my 16-35 mm GM . I couldn’t return it because the time passed by and I trust that this lens will stand on the quality image of a GM. As an update from my previous review it was my mistake and I’m sorry for my previous comments. I update the firmware and it has been way better not completely sharp but good enough for work March 29th 2025
