These spikes are indeed solid brass, not white metal with a junky coating, and they are machined perfectly. So are the backing screws. They are very tough, weigh a bit more and don't scratch up easily. These are the good ones, which is why they're a bit more expensive. If this aspect doesn't matter to you, I would suggest you just go with the cheaper ones, as you can get gold chrome or brass plated spikes for less. Also, since these are raw brass, they tend to get a less shiny patina or antique effect over time. You can always shine them up again with Brasso, or just appreciate the natural patina. The screws give room for different thicknesses of leather and a variety of projects. Just a tip, after I have the pattern set and all the holes punched, I put a drop of super glue (or LocTite) on the backing threads right before I screw them down, because they can tend to unscrew themselves over time. Especially if they're on a motorcycle jacket or wristband where they're getting jostled around a lot. I've lost a few spikes over the years that way. Although just be prepared that you're never going to get them off again if you change your mind. If you're planning on using these on thinner cloth, note that they are a little heavier than the cheaper spikes and might sag a bit.

I got them in a timely manner and good quality. Some Chicago screw style have burs and don’t fit together well. These were all smooth and look great!! I’ll order more!

I loved these screw Backs, it helped me return my beautiful Purse back to normal. I always felt naked with that piece missing from the bottom of my purse. But thanks to these it's perfect again.

These are great! A little smaller than I anticipated, but they worked the way I wanted them.

Several of the "bolt" ends were unthreaded leaving me with threaded rounded studs I cannot use. Amazon won't take a partial return and I have a project underway that I need to move forward on, but I'm very disappointed at the quality control of the manufacturer if they can allow unthreaded parts to pass as threaded parts.A 15% failure rate is abysmal performance.If they aren't aware of that failure rate, they're not looking.If they are aware of it and can't fix it in the production line, throwing some spares in to cover their flaws would be a nice fix, but they didn't do that.I have (effectively) 17 of the 20 I ordered. I needed 20 (two projects that need ten studs each).I'll likely look elsewhere for whatever replacements I decide on.

I love these, it was hard to find them solid like this anywhere in United States!
