Excellent first board game for preschoolers
This was a favorite game when I was teaching preschool. The board and pieces are colorful, durable, and easy for young children to handle. The game reinforces colors, one-to-one correspondence, and practice in controlling and rolling a die. The game has no winner or loser between children but there is clearly a winning snail. This allows children to learn to take turns and play a game to the finish without becoming overly focused on whether or not they are winning. The game can be played with one or more players. The box is sturdy and the board and pieces easily fit allowing children to successfully put everything away when finished thus reinforcing self-help skills and responsibility. While I give the game 5 stars, I was very disappointed in how it was shipped. It arrived with a large mailing label and a barcode label affixed directly to the game box instead of the game box first being placed in packaging. I was able to carefully remove the labels but a large sticky residue was left behind. Very disappointing especially because this was ordered as a gift.

Great Additon to My Preschool Classroom
I bought this game to use in my preschool classroom and it has quickly become a favourite with all of my students. They love helping each of the snails make it across the board, and I love that it teaches team work and patience and taking turns. I really like that it is a non-competitive game and I enjoy watching the students cheer when the "underdog" snail finally gets to move a space. It is easy to play, but still provides plenty of entertainment. The game is very high quality. Every thing is very sturdy and I love that the snails and dice are wooden rather than plastic. The bright colours of the board and pieces just add to my love of this game. In the three months I have owned Snail's Pace Race, it has gotten plenty of use and I am sure it will continue to be played for many years to come.

The very best first board game ever!
I've been a nanny for a long time with different families and I actually found this game first at a garage sale. It's the perfect first game for a 3 year old because it's so easy for them to set up and understand. Kids at that age are so clever and will always innocently figure out clever ways to "cheat," so it's a good opportunity to teach them to play fair right off the bat, if you play it in a competitive way. I've bought this game from Amazon twice since I got the original game. The last game I got, we drew another game that was a little more complicated on a piece of paper and used the color dice for that one too, because they do outgrow it rather quickly and it's so well made the parts will last forever!

Perfect first board game!
Perfect first game! Very well constructed, sturdy set. I really love that everyone works together to help each snail win. Players do not choose a color, but rather work cooperatively to see which snail will win first, second, etc. We all cheered as each snail crossed the finish line! Teaches taking turns, colors, counting, and team work, without the tears of little ones “losing”. That competitive part can come when they are older. Quick, fun game the whole family can enjoy!

Good first game that’s fun for the whole family
This game is really simple. It seems too simple to be fun but it actually is! Rooting for your snail to win, and the opportunity for multiple people to pick the winning snail is great. I got this along with a few others as an introduction to games for my 3 year old but the whole family enjoyed it. Sometimes it’s nice to just relax and play a simple, fun, silly game without having to explain or argue over the rules. I definitely recommend this game. The snails are larger than I had thought they would be and the game is really sturdy.

Not bad.
High quality game pieces. The game itself wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. It's simple and lighthearted, perfect for a toddler. The fact that the whole thing is completely random can make for a poor game. For instance, my daughter picked the pink snail to win, and in the amount of time it took for ALL of the other snails to cross the line, the pink snail had moved literally 2 spaces. She still had fun rolling the dice and moving the pawns, and I'm sure the next game won't be so lopsided in the rolls, but our first game could have gone better.

A Game for Parents Who Hate Playing Kids Games
Probably the only thing I hate worse than playing board games with small children is reading aloud Care Bear books. But I love Snail's Pace: the snails are very tactile and fun to hold, there's just the amount of tension and opportunity for strategy, everybody moves ahead in a linear fashion so nobody gets confused and, best of all, the game can't drag on endlessly with no conclusion. Oddly, I've found it holds older children's' attention as they "help" younger children (probably because they can relax, since it's a low-stakes game with little tension over winning and losing). Many children seem to identify with the snails, sympathizing with the "slower" ones and wanting to help them along -- even if they belong to an opponent! This is a fine game for evenings before bedtime -- nobody gets wound up, as everyone takes the snails' example and takes things r-e-a-l-l-y e-a-s-y….

Great game for Speech therapy
This game is great and my kiddos love it! From as young as 3 to as old as 16 they all have a great time cheering on their favorite color!
