Cosmic Perspective, The

I absolutely love book rental. I really didn't want the high cost of book that I would use for a few months. I am not one of those people that needs to keep books around. I am so happy I found this option. The book arrived on time for my class. This the first time I have done this, and I will continue to do this as long as I need books for education. Highly recommend if you are on a budget and can't afford new books. This option was also cheaper than book rental at my school. I also liked the fact I did not have to go to the school to the get the book. When done I can just send the book back to Amazon. Very happy with this option.

This book is definitely the best option in obtaining it in terms of pricing, and the book itself is plastic wrapped and unused. But, if you are in need of the online code for access into the pearson assignments or anything like that, even though this option is an unused book, the online code is not included with this purchase. Overall good purchase, good for your wallet, and true to description of the listing.

Great overview of the field of astronomy, its discoveries, models, theories, and selected hypotheses for future testing. For the most part, this is very good and comprehensive in breadth. Some topics feel like they have more depth than was needed, while others don't have enough. There are a very large number of cross references, most of which are identified only through a section number rather than a page number, and can involve a bit of searching. There are many terms that should be boldfaced and thus found in the glossary, but instead were italicized, even though numerous other italicized words did not appear there. There are at least a couple errors I noticed (e.g. accidentally reversed wording when describing Hubble's use of another's discovery) and some typos in which a word was misspelled or an incorrect figure number was referred to, but overall this is a superior product. Very rarely, some explanations feel inadequate, such as the handling of the topic of the "flattening" of condensing clouds. Also, this book is too massive to be completely used in any ordinary college course, but it's nice to have the extra material to study later. There is a subscription service called Mastering Astronomy that has a lot of really neat and useful things that would otherwise be far less clear using the text alone, and it's sad that access to that extra information must disappear when the subscription expires, instead of actually being owned as part of the content in this book. The numerous questions that follow every chapter do not have any answers provided within the text, although some sets of questions are duplicated on the Mastering Astronomy site where answers can be deduced or discovered (although in general, this takes more time than a course schedule allows). The book is good at teaching the subject, but it does tend to require students to put in a lot of extra time to answer questions and then verify *some* of their answers online. I would prefer a more straightforward layout that makes future reference easier, even though the books design might have its uses at making students think linger and more deeply while learning the topic.

The media could not be loaded. This book cost me 50 bucks. I received it and it is thrashed. This is my third time trying to buy a book. The last two were missing 200 pages. This is ridiculous.

Hello guys,At first I would like to review the delivery / packaging services because of the condition the book was delivered. Right after opening the package i noticed the torn page as you can see on the pictures. The cover of the book is with bends and scratches. The whole book looks like it was used for quit some time, despite i ordered NEW one. I read several reviews about the 8th edition and people had similar issues (torn pages, cover damage, some even have missing pages), i thought they ordered used books (they did not specified if they ordered new or used one).To review the book itself, I very much enjoy it. The content is very interesting and explained the way i think anybody could understand. In my opinion this is the right book to buy, if you want most of the "astro" content to be covered.The cons of the book is the quality of the paper, which is very weak, i would say rubbish - it feels like it is gonna torn every time i touch it.I was very disappointed because of the condition the book was delivered.In my opinion this is totally unacceptable, for the price they are asking for it.I hope this helps at least someone, and if you decide to order this book, i hope yours will come in good condition.
