This book is great for that - has a great variety of games and puzzles that really get you thinking. I actually learned how to play sudoku for the first time with this book! After spending 20 mins with this book, I feel like I had a light workout. Gives me a great break from social media. The level of difficulty ranges throughout the book, so there are definitely some challenges in here too, and if you really can't figure something out, all the answers are in the back. I've been bringing it everywhere with me so it's doggie-eared now, but I ordered it brand new and it arrived in perfect condition. Review: Great Variety of Puzzles - I love the Brain Games series because the variety of games is more interesting and a better workout for your brain...rather than a book with all the same type of puzzles like crosswords, word search or sudoku. Some of the puzzles are rather easy, and some can be rather tough, but I guess that really depends on the individual. I have found that some of the puzzles could use a better explanation or a more helpful starter clue. If the rules are vague, I just ask someone to look at the answer in the back of the book and clarify them for me. I also prefer these puzzle books over puzzle magazines because the paper is thick enough for all the erasing that you might need to do along the way, Hint: a good way to keep your memory fit is to keep trying to recall the items in the memory puzzles even after you finish them. Overall, I recommend the Brain Games series. Honestly, my brain feels less foggy from all the different challenges.

Great Variety of Puzzles

Fun with value, quality and a variety of games!
I like that it has a self assessment at the beginning of the book so you can do a before and after comparison of progress. It has a nice mix of brain games, and they are at a good beginning level in the start and mix in moderate difficulty (at least for me). I also like the combination of word, number and maze type games. I tend to enjoy word games best, but was pleasantly surprised the first sudoku puzzle was one I finished! I usually dislike sudoku a lot but was super proud of myself that I completed this one...it’s probably the first one I ever have. It gave me confidence to continue the book and I’ll probably take a shot at the next sudoku puzzle. The book has a generous number of pages for the value, I like that the pages are square, it feels more manageable on my lap. It’s unlike the magazine type puzzle books at the store, those are quite floppy where this has a certain firmness due to the quality of the paper. The printing is clear and sharp and so far has been easy on the eyes. I recommend this book for those who want to keep their brain challenged each day and for those who like a variety of different kinds of puzzles (or are willing to try in order to exercise your brain a bit- which would probably be a good idea for a lot of people of all ages). It’s 4 stars for the back cover inching its way off in my bag over a couple of days, maybe a rubber band around the book would help if you like to carry these types of things around. :)

multifaceted workout for the brain
Grab a pencil (with an eraser)- I like sticking a mechanical pencil into the spiral for safe keeping. I keep a binder clip and a sticky note pad with this spiral bound book. I use the pencil so I can make adjustments as I work through a puzzle. I use the binder clip to hold my page and to keep the sticky note pad with the book. I use the sticky note pad for additional spot to work a problem, to take a note, or to use a sheet to bookmark some other page. Plan to get actively involved with this book. That being said, This is a great book to have on hand to give your brain a workout. It begins with an informative read on brain fitness, and how to protect and enhance it. It talks about the different ways to engage the brain and to stretch it and give it a good work out. Next section provides a way to "assess your brain" which is a quick questionnaire to help you to figure out how your mind works before even beginning this puzzle book. The remainder of book includes a whole host of challenges, from easy warm ups to more difficult activities. You will find Mazes, Cryptograms, Sudoku, Cross Word, Drawing, Word ladders, Search a Word, and others that I don't know what to call them, other than they are interesting and challenging. These puzzles address areas of thinking such as: Logic, Language, Planning, Attention, Visual Search, Analysis, Spacial Reasoning, General Knowledge, Creative Thinking, Memory, and Computation. Each puzzle lets you know what areas it is addressing. There book is organized into 5 levels. Level 1 includes warm up activities like easy mazes, but I found some of the puzzles within that one to be challenging, and some of the higher level puzzles to be kinda easy. So I think one could start wherever they want in the book, and do whatever looks interesting in that moment. There will be some that will stump you, and some that you will fly through. It will depend on how you tend to think and how you might need to be challenged. In total, there are 168 puzzles in total, with complete answers available in the back of the book. It is a nice book to carry as it isn't too big (roughly 9.5" x 7.5" x .75"). The spiral bound book is easy to handle, and works great as a pencil holder.

Good, but lots of room to improve.
Im a 33 year old male. Got to page 26 and have a few things to point out. Got this to excersize my brain. Stuff like word searches and mazes are a little too easy, but still fun for a warm up. The difficulty of questions is all over the place, but it is nice to have variety. My biggest problem is that some of these questions are super obscure in what they are asking you to do. That wouldn't be a problem if they had examples showing how to do it. Overall worth the 8 bucks i guess.
