Good box to learn on and have in a SOHO.
This is a great device for individuals wishing to get Juniper certifications, I passed my JNCIA after purchasing it and has the potential to work well for future ENT and Sec certifications. It has it's limitations as a small appliance, it's brother the 210 and higher would definitely work better for use in an enterprise. If you know Cisco and want to become introduced to Juniper and its FreeBSD origins-a great option. I prefer the Cisco ASA 5505 for home use because the SRX100 doesn't support SSL VPN.

Juniper SRX100 - Nice!
Ok, so you want to play and gun for JNCIA-JUNOS certification or higher?! This will suffice, because emulators wont - meaning you get what you pay for (as in the real deal on whats crackin) From TCP to BGP to VPN, this little bad boy does it all for the do-it-yourself type person and/or small business. The "B" (512MB) is good enough for entry level and does a wonderful job, the upgrade you may ask is a software license that unlocks the memory to 1GB - which with good typing can be a laugh or two. Anyways, even though this device is limited on interfaces to FastEthernet of "100MBit", it's more than sufficent for 90% of what you'll be using it for, since SRX stands for "Security, Routing, and Switching" - it basically filters traffic with it's neat little "security zones". If you have never touched one of these, it's recommended you catch a read or two on configuration of SRX series devices as it's not as straight forward as one may think. All the interfaces are "family ethernet-switching", not "family inet", so there ya go. Overall, a plug in module like the 200's and above have would have been ideal, but then again I would have purchased that model if the need came for it, which at this time it does not (those models have ADSL support, and can be 1GBit interfaces as far as hardware goes). Studying for the exam is the only reason I obtained this, I think it's well worth the buck and if you have no need for the device it has a good resale value as again emulation does not provide justice.

Good firewall with great throughput even for 100mb links (I can get up to 88-90mbps on my Comcast connection). JunOS is a pleasure to work with but on this device it can be a little slow due to base 512MB RAM. It comes with a 1GB stick but because of licensing limitations you can only use 512MB (unless you pay up).

Excellent for Juniper Cert overkill for the average home user/business unless you need vpn
If you're looking for Juniper certs, this is great since after you're done you can resell it. Comes with Juniper's slick and pretty Web gui. All ports can be reconfigured for routing or switching.
