The length of the shaft is called the "stroke", it determines how far the nylon glide needs to travel in order to fully recline the chair. A longer stroke is ok because the mechanism will stop when it reaches it's full extension. Do not however, continue to push the controller button or you may strip the worm gear in the motor head.
