Great Product; Would Recommend!
I found this product to be solid and exactly as described. I am only a amateur scientist and wanted to measure various sources around the house/outdoor environment. This device was sensitive enough to detect particles being produced by my granite countertops, which exceeded my normal background radiation for my area by about double CPM. I purchased this product due to the price point, reviews and the fact it can detect alpha/beta/gamma radiation. Furthermore, I contacted the company directly several times to get various questions answered. I found they were professional, detailed and prompt with their replies. I would buy again if I needed another, but I think this one will suffice for some time. I noted it was factory calibrated with CS-137 and has a certification sticker on the back with date/technician name. For the professional it's noted in the description it can be NRC certified if needed for addition cost, but for my needs factory calibration is sufficient. I found this to be a great Geiger Counter and would highly recommend.

It has been good
I have had this for several years and found it to be accurate and reliable. I also appreciate working with the company - if you need something you can email them and they'll get right back to you.

Calibration/ material
The instrument is calibrated once a year. Calibration was done 10 months prior to purchase. Also feels cheaply made. Clasps, wand and housing is made of plastic. Battery was not included, neither was a functional charger.

The GCA-06W was working correctly on receipt and I used ...
The GCA-06W was working correctly on receipt and I used some Americium 241 from a used First Alert SC9120B smoke and carbon dioxide alarm that I the source was removed from before recycling, to check it. The only problem was that it was taking 42 mA drain from the 9v battery and 56 mA with the light on so there is not a lot of usage time before the battery voltage falls to 7 volts. I have ordered some rechargeable 9v as a back up.

Reliable
Shows reasonable numbers. Computer software lacks few options. Big thing - it can measure alpha-radiation. No set of radiation filters though.

There's no such thing as "NRC certification", just get it calibrated for any real work
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission does not certify radiation survey instruments, so claiming one is "NRC certified" makes no sense. If you go to this manufacturer's website page on the topic called "Why NRC Certification is Important", a calibration sticker is shown from a third party health physics company in Pennsylvania. THEY were the ones that calibrated and certified the device, not the NRC. Now, that's totally fine, calibration to a NIST-traceable source for compliance to NRC regulations is what you're supposed to do when you're taking radiation measurements for any serious purposes. $125 isn't a particularly bad price for it either. But marketing it such that the NRC is involved at all with the calibration process is disingenuous.

To be honest, you don't get many choices at this price. It works, It gets the job done. I wouldn't expect more. So I say it's a great product.
