Down the Long Hills: A Novel Review: A great story - This was a good read that kept me interested. It is a typical dime western tale, but with a very different spin. Although it is unlikely that all these circumstances would have played out in real life, it was still entertaining, albeit a little far fetched. Review: Great read - Great read! This was a gift to my grandpa which he then gave to me to read after. I'm not usually one to sit and read a book but this one got my attention.

the work of a true craftsman
Louis L'Amour was a craftsman; there can be no legitimate argument about that, but...he stretches this plot past the improbable to the 'come on now, Louie.' The protagonist (s) are a seven-year-old boy and three-year-old girl. The book starts strong as usual; L'amour sets the scene well and introduces his characters but fails to make clear how they come to be in the scene and how they are related. The drift causes one to believe they are brother and sister, but the little girl often refers to the boy's dad as your pa. Who were her father and mother, and what was the connection? The story continues, but L'amour goes past the improbable to the impossible with the seven-year-old doing things that no child can do, even in a fiction novel. But L'amours' talent keeps the reader turning the pages, and he brings all the possibilities together for a well-structured ending. I give it four stars because he stretches the plot so far, but I read every word. I recommend it because it is a classic L'amour work of art.

Molon Labe: Never Surrender
What I like about Down the Long Hills is the encouragement the story works into the reader's subconscious. You are pulled into the story by credible characters that have you cheering their courage. Hardy is a young boy thrust into a fight for survival. A challenge that could kill a grown man. I like survival stories. They're my favorite kind of tale. Nature against a man or, in this case, a child. A man convinced he's in the right & refuses to quit fighting, is an unstoppable force. This is a great tome for any guy who isn't a BETA. If you're an Alpha male, aka a real masculine MAN, this is the high caliber storytelling only Louis L'Amour could crank out. 5 ✨ s was my opinion of ALL Louis L'Amour's books. RIP Louis L'Amour

I've been so sure I'd read all of Mr. L'Amour's Lost Treasures that I hadn't even looked for more novels! Finally, I looked thru my Kindle library, and this title wasn't there. It was a real thriller!

My favorite L’Amour!
The education of observations and figuring out the best way to go forward by a seven year old boy has always been fascinating to me.

Gripping tale
I really like this story, although in this day and age it seems highly unrealistic that 7 & 3 yo children could survive the extreme circumstances. But I know youngsters can rise to a challenge when necessary, especially with the appropriate rearing as Hardy had been given. The ages of the children make this a compelling read. And the means by which Hardy is able to keep the two alive are fascinating.

After an attack on the wagon train In witch only two people survived. This is an amazing tail of a seven year old boy who looks after his younger female companion. He is hunted by Indians and bad men and uses all his skills taught to him by his father. It would appear they are all After his wonderful horse. This is an amazing read, you could easily read twice.

I love this book. It is from a genre that I do not normally read however I remember my teacher in 6th grade reading this to our class and it stuck with me all of these years. I purchased it for another young girl. Hopefully it will resonate with her in the same way. It is a story of survival, hope and love and centers around 2 very small children and how they manage in an extreme situation. I believe that all young people could benefit from this old classic.
