one user in this review mentioned Black wire is ground, while is is HOT, but the manual comes with it says opposite...Which is right? Please help Got the answer. Make sure bulb hot side(voltage written that side) is put with Black wire. YOu have to open the whole thing out and check where black wire is connected. Check this you tube how to deal with bulb.... [...] I had one connected wrongly... luckily I checked otherwise I might have destroyed the bulb.

The reflector is a *plastic-lined* aluminum, and started to melt, smoking and smelling worrisome within minutes. Without a reflector, the base gets toasty too. Steel would have been a good choice of material for a reflector, and bare aluminum would have done the job. Aluminum can catch fire, though the inch or so of separation between lamp element and reflector should keep it safe. Aluminum covered in plastic is just dumb. Arrived with a broken lamp, but okay, stuff happens, and Amazon kindly replaced it. It's hot! Oven thermometer on the glass (so actually measuring about an inch above it), stabilized around 450-500°F depending on ventilation. If dry leaves ignite around the same temperature as paper does (do you recall reading Fahrenheit 451?) then I'd be careful that leaves couldn't accumulate anywhere near this thing. Maybe place it under a separate cover, and hope nobody builds a nest in between? On the plus side, the unit didn't actually catch fire.

Nice light for the money. Pleased. The inner light reflector does an excellent job of distributing light evenly and the housing itself is made well. Durable and seems like it will last many years. Two slight concerns- 1) As others have stated, the fixture comes with a round mounting cover which only possesses two threaded hole mounting locations. The cover is to be used in conjunction with round, weatherproof electrical boxes. The issue is, that with the location of those two holes on the cover, one's choice of aiming the light is inhibited due to the cover not having a center hole. There are covers on the market which possess a center hole. If your old mounting location already has one of those type covers then you would be able to determine which one would allow for proper aiming. Would be almost impossible to determine which might work for you particular arrangement, without having all three in hand (the fixture and both type covers). If you already have a 3 hole cover--your'e golden, if not I would suggest picking one up while your'e here. Just FYI. (please see pictures attached for clarity sake) 2) The second facet that I would like to highlight is the manner in which the glass is held in place. I have no issue with this design and it holds the glass securely . However, what I would like to highlight is, if this fixture were to be mounted high above the ground where gaining access could only be done with the usage of an extension ladder and reaching then this particular fixture could be very problematic. You would need two hands to ensure the glass didn't slide out after those two screws were loosened and you definitely need two hands to reinstall the glass.

This fixture is constructed reasonably well for indoor/garage use, I wouldn't install it outdoors, it doesn't include gaskets. I give it two stars as an indoor fixture only because the lampholder cover included with the fixture is domed and only includes 1/2" holes to receive the lamp on the outer edge; there's no center mount point for the lamp. This means you can't accurately aim the lamp. To correct this problem you need to buy the lampholder cover with a center hole separately. Amazon sell them for about $6 with Prime delivery. So the real cost of this lamp is closer to $22 (that is, if you'd like to be able to use it). This not only cost me extra money, it also cost me an extra 3 days in shipping. I'd strongly recommend trying the Cooper light, though I haven't used it myself. I would not buy these lights again, and I bought 9 of them.

These make a great outdoor spotlight and the price is very reasonable. I replaced 3 of these that were the exact same light that had been up for almost 20 years. And this on a salt water front home and the lights are on the water front side. One did arrive with a bad bulb, but I decided it was cheaper to replace the bulb than to send it back. Shipping was prompt and they were seemingly well packaged (though see the previous sentence).

This one was a replacement for one that was already installed. The halogen bulbs burn out much sooner than I had expected and along with the bulbs the contacts in the lamp also burned up. I ended up buying LED floodlights and they have been great.

Bought this to replace an older floodlight. Worked OK until I left it on overnight then it melted part of the reflector and burned out the bulb. This could be a fire hazard if the reflector had melted through to the wires. Still works but I am looking for a better quality and safer replacement.
