Well worth it.
Please don't laugh (I'm new, but learning fast), but I had never heard of Starrett until last year when I ran across a reference in a product review on another website (something like, "It's no Starrett."). After researching further and not finding one negative comment about Starrett, I decided to invest the extra money in this punch set. No regrets, baby! This is a super high quality set. Nice and solid, with some weight to it. Knurled handles for easy gripping. If you want a cheap no-name (probably Chinese) punch set from someplace like CheaperThanDirt for $10, then fine, more power to you; but as someone having just come from that and ending up frustrated & angry because the dang things bend and break in two when trying to remove a simple pin from a firearm--not to mention scratching the finish when it does--my advice is to save your money, bide your time, and invest wisely in something that'll last a lifetime and do the job. This Starrett set is just the ticket. Update (2/7/14): I love this set, and it still gets my highest 5-star recommendation. However, the 1/16" punch has bent/broke on a couple of occasions and required replacement. If I remember correctly, I believe the two culprits were (1) the safety lever pins on the Beretta 92/96 and (2) the sear pin on a Taurus M66 revolver. In both cases, the pins were in very tight (the Taurus pin is staked) and required a good whack to loosen. In any case, it was a minor setback, and no harm done. I now keep spares of the 1/16" punch on hand in case something like this ever happens again. [Ironically, I haven't had a problem since I ordered spares!] This is a great punch set!

Starrett punch set
Item was as described and of good quality as to be expected from Starrertt however the plastic for the case seems to be a but cheaper and thinner than the older models.

Solid punch set - good buy
OK this is my first punch set. I have read some reviews on other punch sets as well as this one that the metal bends when some people used it. I did not experience this at all. I used the 2nd thinnest punch from the bunch and I used it on a product that was being difficult to push out some metal pieces, so I took this punch and used a hammer....that's right...a big solid hammer and started whacking at the punch. I was scared I was going to bend it based on prior reviews. I hit it HARD like hammering a big nail into a 2X4 and it stood up to it. Not even a slight bend and any damage to it. Will I be always treating this punch set that way? probably not...it was just that one time...but hey, at least I know this is a good quality item now. Will last me a lifetime...if I don't lose it first. I would definitely recommend to buy these if you in the market for a punch set. Will not disappoint Cheers!

Great punches made in USA, junk case
Excellent punches, Starrett quality, thin plastic flexible case that came ripped open. Had to order the hard plastic round container which is much better but doesn’t have sizes on it like the flex pouch does. Get the hard case..

Nice solid punches
My old punch set broke and I decided to buy the best punch set I could find. After reading all the reviews I was convinced this was the set to go with and being a Starrett I expected high quality and that is what i received. With all the gunsmith work i do these will come in handy. The only thing i would have like to see is a flat head for more surface area when using a hammer but im sure this was designed this way to last longer. The finish is top notch, the grips work well and the markings are clear to see which is fantastic. Came in a red plastic vinyl case. Paid about $41 for it off amazon and a week later the price dropped down to $37 and some change. Amazon was great and refunded me the difference which is great and why i will continue to use Amazon.

Starrett is the only brand I will use as most other's are either a weak alloy or poorly machined. If you want a job well done, don't cheap out over a few dollars.

Starrett, la référence en terme de fabricant de chasse goupilles made in USA. Utilisés pour la maintenance d'armes.

Unlike many other Starrett products, these are entirely affordably priced and are miles above the competition as far as quality is concerned. It's a no-brainer.
