Guaraná (pronounced gwah-ruh-NAH) comes from an Amazonian berry that has been ground up and used as an energy supplement by indigenous people since time immemorial. It’s still used by millions of Brazilians every day and it’s the chief ingredient and flavoring for Brazil’s national soft drink, Guaraná Antartica. The soft drink doesn’t have that much caffeine in it. For energy Brazilians buy the powdered beans, which they mix with juice or in smoothies, or the capsules. I recommend the capsules because they’re easy to take, you get a consistent standardized dose, and it’s much easier to use than the powder, which is messy and doesn’t mix easily in liquids unless you have a blender handy. Otherwise it clumps badly and it’s kind of bitter. For energy I prefer guaraná to coffee because it helps fight fatigue and keeps me awake and alert for 4 - 6 hours without jitters. I’m not sure why that is but I suspect there are other chemicals in the ground berries that help counteract the jitteriness you get from pure caffeine. Anyway, try it. You’ll like it if it works for you. It doesn’t seem to for everyone – may have to do with your own body chemistry or something about your body’s caffeine receptors. But it almost always works for me and it’s been very helpful. It’s also not very expensive although the madman’s tariffs will probably cause an increase in price. Still, for a nice non-jittery boost it’s worth it!

EDITED REVIEW: I have used this product 3 or 4 more times, and it definitely has effects that align with it being a stimulant. It was not what I was expecting, so it took me a couple of uses to realize that it’s not snake-oil. The stimulation is much milder than the coffee I drink, but it lasts much longer. This has been my firsr experience with guarana obviously, so I don’t have a vantage point to judge if this is more potent, less potent, or exactly as potent, as it should be. I’m going to change the rating to 4-stars, figuring that it indeed works but taking a star off because I would personally like it to be more potent. However, even though one of these capsules supposedly contains more than twice as much caffeine as my instant coffee, I felt nothing after taking one. And I hadn’t eaten in fifteen hours prior, nor three hours after, so there was nothing interfering with its absorption. I really question whether these capsules have ANY caffeine at all. This stuff is great. It lasts 6-8 hours and no crash or jitters. The caffeine is released slowly over time so you feel "even" all day. It hits from 30-40 minutes after taking it on an empty stomach with water. I took the suggested amount (2 pills). It was just the right amount of caffeine. I'm very happy with my purchase and I'm going to suggest it to the people I work with. Great product. I'll be buying them regularly.

Wow. I'm someone with a high tolerance. I'm used to coffee, energy drinks and generic caffeine pills. This has blown me away. The effects are longer lasting and there's not such a quick crash. My focus feels solid and I'm not jittery. Wonderful!

Empecé a tomar cápsulas de guaraná como reemplazo del café en la mañana porque estaba tomando mucho café, hasta 4 tazas al día. Ahora solo tomo una cápsula de guaraná en la mañana y tengo energía la mayor parte del día. Investigué y se debe a que el guaraná se libera de forma controlada y prolongada, mientras que el café solo provoca un pico de energía y luego un bajón. Excelente inversión.
